In the personal file of Max Schäfer and your Dienstlaufbahn, from Nara Archives, there is not info about the commanding of Nederland Division. What document have mentioned Moore?

Hi. I'm in the process of researching SS officer Josef Rüschhof(correct spelling: Rüschhoff) of
SS-Panzer-Grenadier-Division "Nederland".
So far I have got the following:

DOB 31.12.12, Marienfeld, Krs.Warendorf
Service No: SS-Nr. 201300
Rank: SS-Stubaf. SS-Art.Rgt. 54 10,5 cm
09.11.43 Promoted to SS-Hauptstrumführer
Holder of:
21.06.44 Awarded SS-Totenkopf Honor Ring
23.09.44 Awarded German Cross in Gold
Captured 02.05.45 near Schwerin and interned in POW near Kraak.
Died 1962 @ his place of birth, Marienfeld

The source for most of this information is Deutsche Dienststelle

I would really appreciate any further info/photos on this officer from the forum.

Best regards

Jo

Hi radevich, the "Nederland" never had a "Abteilung". It was formed, and remained, a Kompanie.
Although mentioned all over the internet, Planegg is incorrect.

Hi
According to Moore was Max Schäfer Commander of the Division.

Jan
The reason for these temporary commanders is as follows (Jürgen Wagner was the only official Kommandeur of "Nederland" for its existence):

Mid-August - Mid-September 1944: Wagner was leading KG Wagner in the defense of Tartu (Dorpat) and so the Brigade required a temporary commander.

For the period Schäfer is listed as Kommandeur in Janaury 1945 this is the period in which Wagner returned to Germany to receive his Oakleaves from Himmler, and took 2-3 weeks leave.

Best,
Rich
