Since this thread deals more with biographical details than war crimes, I'll move it to the SS&P section - DT.

Hi

PAUL SOPPA(1905-1947)
Soppa joined the SS in 1933. His rank was SS-Untersturmführer and from 1940 commander of Pankrac Gestapo prison. He was tried by a Czech peoples court in Prague for his part in the execution of czechs.

He was the only Defendant at his trial 3rd May 1947. War criminals sentenced to death in Czechoslovakia were executed within 1 or 2 hours of the sentence. They were allowed to stay their execution by 1 extra hour. There was also only a few trials involving more than one accused ie Kladno gestapo (Lidice) and SDP (Sudeten German Party) members .

Majority of my information is from Archives in Chodov. Hope some of this helps you.

Hello Ansata.
I cant find the thread where you were asking about the list of accused in Terezin trial so I will add names to this one.
Heinrich Joeckel - commander of KL Terezin - small fortress
Theodor Hohaus
Wilhelm Schmidt
Franz Munzig
(after the war was arrested Karl Matz, driver, who died in prison on 25.9.1945, Eduard Zeinecke who escaped from prison in August 1945 and Thomas Soukup who commited suicide)
Others accused were members of waffen SS: Lewinski, Ricker, Kratkay, Dowe,...
All of them (except of Hohaus who was acquited) were sentenced to death and hanged in Litomerice.

Hi goofy,

I am still unable to find out anything of this trial even though I have been in Terezin camp (as a visitor)
Do you have date of sentences?
I have not heard of Franz Munzig, Ricker, Kratkay, Dowe . . . and like others on this forum I would appreciate more information.
I have a reference book from Terezin published 1996 that mentions a couple of different names.
BTW: I was in the cell where Joeckel was held after capture. Sadly it was damaged by flood water as was the prisoner barracks.

regards

who can tell me more about Eduard Zeinecke? he is my great-grandfather. what he did was wrong, but he is a part of my history. my grandfather wrote a book. an autobiography. When he was eight he was also arrested in Terezin camp. Months before he played there, while his father was "working". he describes in detail, all his child memories of the war, out of a childish view. without knowledge about the political circumstances. i don`t know facts, just because the childish knowledge of my grandfather, but i want to know more.

Hi

I am interested in more information about:

Lewinski = maybe Is it Josef Lewinský born 24.09.1899 in Vildštejn executed 24.03.1947 in Litomerice
E.Ricker
Kratkay
Dowe
Franz Munzig

first name,Date of birth, place of birth, SS rank...

What was their sentence??? What is your source???
The only name which i can find in the list of executed men (Otakar Liška: Vykonané tresty smrti
Československo 1918-1989) is Lewinsky. maybe the mentioned spelling is wrong???
