quite sure not the same SS leader:
I checked in DAL 1944/7 dedicated to Waffen-SS. Unfortunatelly not listed in Hstuf der R. of part II (front duties).
My opinion: this one was ranked SS-Hstuf. d. R. end 44 or beginning 45
Best source would be SS-Personalveränderungsblatt for this period.

SS-Hauptsturmführer Hans Stange was on 10.1.1945 entrusted with the foundation of the I. Bataillon/SS-Freiwilligen-Grenadier-Regiment 68. This was the so called 'SS-Freiwilligen-Bataillon Hitler-Jugend Flandern', the SS-Freiwilligen-Bataillon of the Flemish youth.
SS-Hauptsturmführer Stange was holder of the Goldenes Hitler-Jugend Ehrenzeichen.
On 22.4.1945 his function as Bataillonskommandeur was taken over by SS-Hauptsturmführer Oluf von Krabbe. SS-Hauptsturmführer Stange whould have taken the command of the SS-Freiwilligen-Grenadier-Regiment 68, that, as far as I know, didn't have a Regimentsstab at this time.

Thank you guys for this great info.
But what do you mean with 'quite sure not the same SS leader' in your post Georges ???
Do you mean the Hans Stange I mentioned is not the same as Phil mentioned or what ???
Or was the Hans Stange I mentioned never commander from I. Btl./SS-Gren.-Rgt. 68 ???

yes,

1st : SS-Stubaf. Hans Stange former Allgemeine-SS disappear in DAL from 40's : K.I.A. or sacked ?
1935 SS-Pi. 20.04.1935 SS-Ustuf., SS 52 877 P N° 30 184
1938 F SS-Standarte 100
after 40 not listed in DAL SS-Stubaf - SS-Ostubaf. 1942, 1943 or 1944 : K.I.A. or left SS ?
I didn't found in beginning 40's classified death add of him ????

2nd : Dienstalterliste der Waffen-SS der NSDAP july 1944 don't mention any Hsf d R "Stange"

so there is a gap : unless left SS and back to SS (possible in some case of disciplinar measures) this indicate that Hans Stange as Kp then batallion leader in Gren. Rgt 68 was another SS leader.

I continue to look for datas on fate of the 1st one.

Hello Georges,
Thanks, I see what you mean.
But it's strange that your 1st Hans Stange has the same partynumber as my Hans Stange but not the same SS-number(I've 240 and you mention 52.877). And your first Hans Stange matches with the info Phil gave us(you both say that he was promoted to SS-Ustuf on 20-4-35)so this Hans Stange was indeed the CO from 100. SS-Standarte.
But indeed it looks like the Hans Stange who was with SS-Grenadier-Regiment 68 was indeed another person.
Let's see if there are other forummembers with some more info about this Hans Stange-person...
Greetings,
Mike

Hello,
Hans Stange from Waffen SS was my Grandpa. Unfortunately I don't have a lot informations about him and to the oposite I am very interested in ANY informations about him.

What I know:
He came from the "Thüringische Landespolizei" to the "SS Verfügungstruppe" (SS-VT), the later Waffen-SS. Due to ideolocical divergences he was arrested in Bautzen (1940?) and was degraded from Stubaf to Hstuf. Later he came to a "Bewährungseinheit" and was wounded at the eastern front by partisans (handgrenade).
At the end of the war he educated flamish boys (they called him "Papa Stange") south of Hamburg (he had contact to some of Langemarck until his death 1977). After war he was arrested nearbei Hamburg by the british occupants until 1948.
Hans Stange was then active in the HIAG until his last days.

regards Joergen

I'm not sure if this is still of interest for you after all those years, but I have a postwar signature of Hans Stange where he signed with "Kdr. I./66, Freiw. Div. Langemarck". This would mean he was in the Freiwilligen-Grenadier-Regiment 66 instead of 68.
