SS at Dachau
I came across this postcard photo of Eicke Platz in the SS complex next to KL Dachau. Can anyone identify the buildings and if they still exist please?

Re: SS at Dachau
Hi Max, as far as I know, this whole Eicke-Platz ensemble was all destroyed or torn down.
I remember when I was there, that they had dug up the foundations of the gate-house towards the camp. But as far as I remember further back there was absolutely nothing old. Just also checked google earth: Also no old houses visible. Eicke Platz must have been very much where today you see Pater-Roth-Strasse crossing with Pfarrer-Lechner-Weg.

Re: SS at Dachau
In the postcard photo above, the large building at the far end of the square was the SS officers' mess. The buildings along the side of the square were SS officers' housing and the photo was taken from the upper floor of the original camp entrance. All these buildings have now been demolished and the square has been built upon.
Outside the KL protective custody compound, the only old buildings still standing are the SS barracks, the SS offices and the commandant's office.

Re: SS at Dachau
Other than the Schutzhaftlager and the 'new' and 'old' crematoria buildings which make up the State Museum the rest of the complex is private and under the control of the Bavarian (Riot ?) Police.
We were at Dachau in August 2009 and took a great many photo's on what was a beautiful sunny day ... sadly all of which are too big for this forums upload limit.

Ian,
All you have to do is reduce the image pixel size so that no one size is bigger than 800 pixels. The aerial photo above was over 2500 pixels in width, so I simply reduced it to 700 pixels (the maximum necessay I think.) The same with the postcard photo. It's so simple.

Max,
The building is often referred to as the officers' mess but the official plans show their mess, (Waldkasino), at the other end of Strasse der SS, near the Commandant's villa, (Waldheim).
One plan shows this building as being occupied by the Bauinspektion Reich Sued, the telephone central exchange and a watch detachment. Another lists a restaurant and shops. The size of the structure would suggest this multipurpose usage.
Here's another of the Dachau postcards looking back the other way with the residences on the right. The building at the opposite end was the cookery school of the SS leader school of the Verwaltungsdientes. A curious touch is the two children in the otherwise empty square. Perhaps the residences were married quarters.

Re: SS at Dachau
Michal, i think right SS Officer from the LSSAH is Hinrich Schuldt.
Best regards,
Andrey.

Re: SS at Dachau
Andrey's identification would fit with Schuldt's command of the SS-Junkerschule course at Dachau in 1938.
Re: SS at Dachau
I agree too. Thank you.
Any idea who is the SS-Obersturmbannführer?
