Paul Maria Hafner was born the eldest son of a guest and farmer. After attending school in Mals and Schlanders Paul Hafner came to the Franciscan Gymnasium in Bolzano, which he joined in 1938 but to the Lyceum in Merano.
Hafner came in 1940 with the support of the Nationalists fighting ring Tyrol to Berlin, where he on 17 February 1941 joined the SS (member number 490 167). He fought in the following years of war until 1944 in the sixth SS Mountain Division "Nord" on the Eastern Front in Finland. He was also temporarily worked as an instructor at the SS-Junker school in Bad Tolz, and in the concentration camps of Buchenwald and Dachau. When the war ended he was one of the 38th SS-Grenadier-Division "Nibelungen", which resulted in 1945 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the U.S. Army. In captivity, he learned Otto Skorzeny and Joseph Schwammberger, with whom he would later have close contact.
After the war, Hafner studied at the University of Innsbruck, where he received a doctorate in Economics in 1949. In the following years he worked in Milan and Bolzano, from 1951 to 1953 he was technical director of the firm of Charles Generalpioggia Nicolussi leak and Much Tutzer. In 1954 he married and settled in Innsbruck in the same year in Madrid. Hafner always had close ties to the SS comrades in South Tyrol and benefited from their international connections. SS officer Karl Nicolussi leak mediated Hafner in Spain for a job at Mannesmann. Later, Hafner tried as an inn owner of the "Tiroler Hof" in Madrid, he also operated a pig there.
Paul Maria Hafner was known for the 2007 documentary by Austrian director potter paradise Günter Schwaiger of the international public. In the film shows his Hafner still existing enthusiasm for Adolf Hitler and National Socialism.

Helge - Good for you for managing to connect this young soldier born in 1923 to the concentration camps! A closer examination of your sources would reveal that Hafner spent his time as a frontline soldier in the "Nord" division prior to graduation from Bad Tölz and was only passing through Dachau near the end of the war.
