How do I contact HIAG?

#1

Post by Peter D » 01 Jul 2010, 01:21

Hi Guys,

I have been using the net but it hasn't helped me that much in my search.
I have been looking for the contact details for HIAG but can't find them (unless they have changed their name)

Does anyone know how to contact HIAG either by traditional mail or electronic mail?

Any help would be great.

Cheers

Hi Peter,

For this one the best person to contact is the person below. As far as i know HIAG was disbanded in 1992,but Patrick Agte took over the publishing of Der Freiwillge ,he has probably the most info and contacts amongst SS veterans. He is a bit of a controversial researcher whos published books on Jochen Peiper and Michael Wittmann. If you contact him you might be better writing the letter in German as i read somewhere he only replies to letters sent in German.

Patrick Agte,
Zurmaiener str,
D-54292 Trier,
Deutschland

My understanding is also that HAIG was disbanded 20 year ago, so there is noone to get in touch with.

Patrick Agte doesn't have a good reputation among WWII historians, researchers or even SS veterans. I don't think we can assume that he is a spokesperson for anyone but himself - Rob

Your chances of getting a reply from Patrick Agte are almost nil !!

Peter,
Can I ask what you exact question is in contacting what was once HIAG? Does it relate to a "Suchdienst" (eg: searching for a particular soldier, a unit where some soldiers served, etc.).

Regards,
Peter (Melbourne - Australia)

Hi,

HIAG was an organisation formed by SS veterans in the 1950s to assist ex members of the SS with money ,helping them to find jobs ,and lobbying the German goverment for better rights for vets.Ex SS men who were spokesmen at times for HIAG included Otto Kumm ,Kurt Meyer, and Hubert Meyer.

In the photos of "free initiative", a flag of the "HIAG eastern Saxony is seen. The abbreviation HIAG stands for "Association of former soldiers of the Waffen-SS eV - aid community on reciprocity," a belief Veterans' Association "of former Waffen SS members, which dissolved in 1992 at the federal level but in regional circles persists to this day. The same HIAG flag appeared in 2003 on photos of veterans meeting on Ullrichsberg in Austria (see below).

Hi Peter,

Yes I am after info on some of my other sides family members.
I believe old veterans would be a good way of sourcing this info. A tall ask I know but you never know if you don't ask.

cheers

No worries Peter. You're quite right: You'll never know if you don't ask.
I suggest you contact: [email protected]
Try to provide them with as much relevant information as you can. For example:
- Not only their full name, but also any possible nick-names they may have had.
- DOB
- Place where born
- All service records
- Any other names they may have served with
If possible do try to write it all in German and a great help is obviously a good photo of the person.

Good-luck with it all.
