Can someone please tell me where he was killed??
I also tried to find him on the VDK-site but no luck. And typing Dreischroffenberg 1 in Google didn't help much either.
Regarding his birthplace, I think it is indeed Salzburg instead of Berlin. But can someone confirm that???

Thank you, Mike

Gebirgsjägerregiment 137 belonged to the 2. Gebirgsdivision that fought on the Murmansk front in Sept. 1941. He was buried in then Northern Finland at Pechenga-Pakkina. Dreischroffenberg 1 is obviously just a local topographical landmark christened by the German forces to identify the spot. You'll have to dig into the files of the units involved to find it today. Presumably only a nameless hill top in the uninhabited wilderness there.

Berlin as POB may be correct nonetheless. After quite some googling this evening I think he was a son of Prof. Friedrich Friedwig Frischenschlager. FFF studied composition in Berlin from 1909- 1915 under Engelbert Humperdinck and moved to Salzburg in 1918 to teach music at the Mozarteum.

If this is correct, former Austrian minister of defense Friedhelm Frischenschlager, another son of FFF, should be Helmut's stepbrother. Friedhelm was born in 1943 so the time gap in the DOB makes it unlikely that they have the same mother. (Friedhelm Frischenschlager is still best remembered for welcoming back former SS-officer Walter Reder from 40 years of Italian capitivy with a public shake-hands in 1985.)

Helmut Frischenschlager worked in the Gauleitung in Salzburg, Gau-Kultur-Hauptstelle. http://tinyurl.com/3ynoxtf
He also seems to have been under consideration for the prehistorical department of the Ahnenerbe (http://homepages.uni-tuebingen.de/gerd. ... rgesch.pdf)
Helmut married in 1939 (http://home.foni.net/~adelsforschung2/d ... ecke00.htm)
There are allegations that some days before his death he murdered a wounded Soviet soldier (http://tinyurl.com/38qnowb ). You shouldn't put to much weight on the title 'SS-Landeskulturreferent' there - author Hannes Heer is notorious throughout the historical communtiy for his sloppiness. No such rank or title ever existed.

So much for today
Torsten
