Help Identifying LAH Officers

#1

Post by alan » 05 May 2011, 19:35

Hello, Can I get some help in identifing any of these LAH Officers? The officer in the Panzer Wrap may have been in the 4th Panzer Co.. The time frame I would guess at late 1942 or early 1943. Thank you.

SS-Ustuf. Max Tischendorf is the second man from the left. Next to him, in black Panzer uniform, SS-Ustuf. Werner Choyka. I do not know the other officers though I would identify the man sitting on the right to be SS-Ostuf. Hans Pfeiffer but I am not sure about him. All these officers belong to SS-Pz.Rgt.1.

Charles, according to a 'most authoratative' book that I own (Leibstandarte Dictionnaire) Choyka became an Ustuf. in 1./SS-PZ Rgt. LSSAH in March of 1943 (?) and died on March 7, 1943. Is that correct? I am assuming so , since you have him listed as a Rttf. 4./SS T.I.R.2 in May of 1941. Can I date my photo to March 1943? Thanks. Alan

The date of March, in his case, indicates that it was his last posting. I do not have Choyka's personal file. It is buried somewhere in Stephan Cazenave's archives so I do not have the date of his promotion to SS-Untersturmführer but it certainly came in 1942. I guess this photo was taken when SS-Pz.Rgt.1 was formed during the autumn of 1942.

Hello Alan,

On the internet I did find this remark: Choyka, Werner. Bemerkung: Beförderungsurkunden, Schreiben an die Personalabteilung LSSAH, 26. Mai 1942. Geburtsdatum: 13.12.1920, Ort: Malga.

So most likely he already served with LSSAH in May 1942.

Greetings, Mike
