Hi James,

the "Das Reich" Division was stationed in the area for a rest after the Yugoslavian campaign. And from there (Linz Area) they then went on to occupied Poland to take part in the attack on Russia from June 21, 1941.

And Himmler always wanted to keep a connection between fighting troops and the camps "inner front" and I guess that therefore this visit to Mauthausen was organised for Das Reich staff.

Thank you very much, Sebastian, but I believe that the author of the page used the wrong pictures for his article. The month of the visit discussed here (with "Reich" officers) and shown on the pictures he used is June, not April.

Hi Ivan,
According to his Taschenkalender, Himmler visited Mauthausen (together with Pohl) on May 31, 1941.
From May 1 until the beginning of June, the units of DIv. "Reich" were located nearby. (Environment of Linz)
