Helge, I do not follow your posted answers to my question "Did Himmler have two breast stars on his uniform? Are you sure he was awarded the Cavaliere of the Crown of Italy?". The photo you posted above of Himmler shows only one breast star. This and the sash are the Cavaliere di Gran Croce of the St. M & L Order. Where is the Cavaliere of the Crown of Italy? Is it listed on his SS Office file?

I know what the two pieces of the Grande Ufficiale look like. I have the two medals worn by Weitzel in that photograph.

This post covers all the medals of Himmler and not just Italian ones. We need to find a confirmation photo. For Sepp Dietrich found. See the post: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=25331&start=15

There are some differences in Himmler's Italian awards listed in the Schulz/Wegmann/Zinke book and Max's book on SS Leaders. Does anyone have the list from his SS File or is that not complete?

Lieber Joe,

in the course of over eight years of work in the field of "Die Generale der Waffen-SS und der Polizei" it has been the experience of AnDie and myself time and again that by no means all awards and/or decorations are listed in the personal files or the Soldbuch !!
Beyond that we find consistently references in contemporary press reports (Völkischer Beobachter, Das Archiv, Die Polizei, Illustrierter Beobachter etc,), in personal announncements for the Personalamt (foreign awards) or in the statements and official listings for the decorations (foreign awards too) - and of course by image representation (also of the bars, sometimes in the inheritance).

The wearing of some decorations was no longer allowed (awards of "Republik Österreich", Freikorps-Abzeichen, Langemarck-Kreuz etc.) and therefore they were no longer mentioned.

Cheers
Dieter Z.
