I have searched in vain so I was hoping someone could tell me the date of Karl Koch's appointment to SS-Standartenführer.

Who is standing next to Koch please? It should be taken in Columbia concentration camp.

Michal: Thanks for posting such a wonderful photo of Koch! To my understanding, all images of KL Columbia are very rare, especially interior shots. The image seems to feature the 1st pattern Totenkopf in the collar tabs, which too is a rare sight. I am still trying to find out, who actually designed/invented these Totenkopf collar tabs in their KL-context. Eicke must have been involved heavily, I attribute the "creation" of distinct identity for Totenkopf troops more to him than anyone else. When the designation "Wachtruppe/Wachverbände" was consciously changed to that of "Totenkopfverbände", it must have included also the visual aspect of this new identity. Perhaps Himmler himself or Karl Diebitsch were involved as well. Of course these are just more or less educated guesses.

Hi Harmel,
thanks a lot. Do you have a photo of Mickeleit for confirmation.

Here is another photo of Karl Koch. Can you please recognize SS-Hauptsturmführer next to him?

Hello Michal,
Pictured is SS-Hstuf. Markus Habben. (A lot) more about him is in volume I (1933 -1937) of my book "Die SS-Totenkopfverbände 1933 -1939", to be published and distributed in September this year. (More info [email protected])
The picture (as well as the one with Koch and Mickeleit) comes from the so called "Koch-Album" held in the former KGB-Archives in Moscow.
A copy of the album is kept at the "Stiftung Brandenburgische Gedenkstätten" in Oranienburg/Sachsenhausen *Germany)
Would be interested, Michal, to know where your copies came from.
Best wishes,
Marten

Left hand side, upper row (third from left) looks like Hermann Florstedt.
Left, lower, (third from left) could be Hermann Helbig.
