ID Totenkopf officers France 1940
I try to identify these two SS officers
This pic was published in french magazine 2ème Guerre Mondiale Nr 28 2011 French translation by Pierre Tiquet of SS-Oberscharführer Martin Brückner‘s war diary (Kriegstagebuch)
The text refers to the 2 SS Totenkopf Regiment in France 1940.
„In a french city, two officers of the 1st Company are delighted with the end of the fights and their presence in a country that they will greatly appreciate „
I found these two officers leading this company.
Ostuf Marienfeldt, Herbert DOB 1. 4.10 in Kiel SS Nr 327 354
Chef,1./T.I.R. 8.40
Hstuf Kalthofen, Hans-Heinrich DOB 25. 4.09 in Riesa/Elbe SS Nr 22 226
Chef,1./T.I.R.2 5.40

Re: ID Totenkopf officers France 1940
The officer standing on the right is a former member of SS-Totenkopf-Standarte 1 "Oberbayern" as he is still wearing the regiment's armband. I do not have Marienfeldt's Personalakte and Kaltofen's files are nearly empty (no Dienstlaufbahn for instance). So it is difficult to say who are these men ...

Hello Charles,
Thank you for taking time to reply
Looking better at the picture, I think the officer on the right is older than Marienfeld and Kaltofen who are both around thirty years old.
He must be at least forty and could be Bertling born 1998 and Kr SS Totenkopf Regiment 2
Isn’t it a honor chevron for old campaigners on his right arm?
The officer on the left looks like more a camp man than a fighter.
Regards
Patrick

Re: ID Totenkopf officers France 1940
This officer has the double Totenkopf collar patch. There is a picture of Karl Herrmann in "Soldaten Kämpfer Kameraden", page 286, which has been taken during the summer of 1940 : his right collar patch has a leaf and not a Totenkopf. Bertling led SS-T.IR 2 before Herrmann and it is definitely not him. Commander of I./SS-T.IR 2 was Fortenbacher and it is not him either.

Re: ID Totenkopf officers France 1940
Hello,
Following an exchange of mail with Bogo a member forum, it appears that the text of the Tagebuch is actually the partial translation of the book of Herbert Brunnegger "Saat in den Sturm" Stocker Verlag 2000 and Ares Verlag 2007, most photos are not related to the text.
I could see myself comparing a few text pages
The photo shows then really officers of the Totenkopf Division but may be not from 1.T. SS Rgt 2 and could be from another regiment.
Regards
Patrick

thank you, Peter
Re: ID Totenkopf officers France 1940
Old thread but I can rule out Hansheinrich Katlofen b., 25.04.09 Riesa. When I have compared the photo I have on him there is no resemblance between those to officers and him.
best regards
Georg
