Hi George,

Thank's.

In fact, my parents were from Zolkiew a little town 30 km from Lemberg. Mother told me about an brutal SS name Pape which was apparently living there (or may be comming every day from Lemberg?). There was a big Aktion in novemberg 1942 and Zolkiew was judenrein in mars 1943.

I wonder if it is the Bernhard Pape we find in Lemberg in 1942 ? Have you an idéa ?

You write "1940-1942 Stapo Schneidemühl". What does-it mean ? Where was he ?

Mother also told me about a chief of gendarmerie name Kather. And a Landskommisar named Rockendorf. Both also found in Zolkiew. I never found any trace of them. May be you will ? Do you know what was exactly a Landskommisar ?

Regards

AS

Pape was the subject of two war crimes investigations, 1966-1974 that involved his service with Einsatzgruppe H, Slovakia, 1944-1945. Neither investigation came to trial.
Possibly he was investigated for crimes in Poland but I have nothing about that.
Pape died 3 Nov 1984, Oldenburg i.O.

Hello Georg and Steve

Thanks for your informations.

Like I told, Zolkiew is a little town ( at the begining of the war 10000 inhabitants , 5000 jews, the others polish and ukrainiens) about 30 kms from Lemberg.

Almost all the jews were killed. Some were hidden and survived. This included my mother now dead. All the survivors told exactly what happened. Some wrote books. They gaved the names of the germans who prevailed there. During the "aktions" camed a lot of SS from Lemberg. I found who they are and what hapenned to them.

They all say that the chief of the SS in Zolkiew whas Pape who had headquarters in Zolkiew. He apparently lived there for a time. He was very brutal, crual, killing children under the eyes of their parents etc.

I contacted the Bundesarchiv in Ludwigsburg. They told me that there was no investigation about crimes in Zolkiew and Pape is most probably SS-Hauptsturmführer Bernhard Georg Pape. I don't find another SS named Pape in this region at that time.

You said : 1942-1944 KdS Lemberg, Abt IV N. What is " Abt IV N" ?

He is never mantionned whith Zolkiew ? Of corse , like you said, since he commited crimes in Zolkiew he did not mentioned about it. Do you know what he said when he was was interrogated ?

The book of Dieter Pohl : "Nationalsozialistische Judenverfolgung in Ostgalizien 1941- 1944" is in german, no traduction in english or french. I don't understand german. May be somebody can check if he write something about Pape ? Or other germans who commited crimes in Zolkiew.

Best

Department (Abt - Abteilung) IV N was responsible for the Gestapo network of informers.

This department was present in every Gestapo office.

The Dieter Pohl book (and the similar one by Thomas Sandkühler) have not been translated from German.

I am not aware of anything about Pape in English (other than a single line in an interrogation report by someone else).

Hello,
I am always in search of the main SS Zolkiew (30km from Lemberg in Galicia ); It may be SS-Hauptsturmführer Bernhard Georg Pape.
But I just read a testimony where het is called "Von Pape" not only Pape.It is said that he is 69 years old (is it possible to have an SS so old ? );
Another witness said he camed from Bielefeld .

Can anyone tell me what he thinks ?

Paul Adolf Raizner died 03.01.1974 in Göttingen.

Cygan was interrogated in 1978, residing in Stockach/Baden at that time.

Unfortunately i don't have any informations about their assignation (position) inside KdS Lemberg.
