SS-Untersturmführer Martin Skowronski

#1

Post by Igor Starikow » 14 Mar 2012, 10:05

Hello,
I am looking for information about Martin Skowronski. On 30.01.1936 he was promoted to SS-Untersturmführer.

He was born in 1894 or 1895. In World War I was a pilot in the squadron Richthofen. In 1923 he became the German consul in Colombia. He died in 1969.

I would be grateful for help in finding information about him. Also, I would very much like to find a picture of Martin Skowronski.

Thanks in advance,
Igor

Many thanks for your quick response and useful information, Phil Nix!

Where was Martin Skowronski born? I have seen information that he was born in Kreis Lyck/Ostpreussen.

I'd really like to find his photo.

Thanks in advance,
Igor

I used to ride in Martin Skowronski's riding school in Cali. I knew his wife Teresa quite well. In their house they had many pictures of him with Richtofen. There was a large German community in Cali and we would get together at Teresa's after riding for drinks. She had piercing blue eyes. One memorable time a guest said to my father (who was English) "Ah yes, I know England well...from the air!"

I also took riding lessons from Martin Skowronsky in Cali Colombia in the 1960's. I knew him as "Don Martin". I remember Teresa and being shown photographs of airplanes up at their house. I think I was one of three Americans in the group. I'd love to hear more about Don Martin!

Hello,
thank you for the memories of Martin Skowronski. You do not know he has children or grandchildren? I can find them?

Martin Skowronski joined the Royal Prussian Jagdstaffel 6 (it was part of the Richthofen Geschwader) only April 23, 1918. Rittmeister Manfred Freiherr von Richthofen was killed in action on April 21, 1918. How, then, they could be photographed together?

I've only seen one picture of Martin Skowronski. It's small and the face is seen bad.

I would be grateful for any help on it.
Best wishes,
Igor

I was a student at the riding school from 1969-1972. I also remember the pictures of the WWI aircraft on the walls, I believe they were of the Red Baron's flying circus, though I don't know what the connection to Martin Skowronski may be.

I trained with Don Martin and Teresa Skowronski in 1964 - 1965 in Cali at Club Hipico San Jorge. I knew he was a WW1 veteran and saw the Richtofen photos. I knew he was a German Consol, but have no information about his WW2 activities. He was a true master equestrian and turned me from novice to pretty decent competitive show jumper in one year. I would love to correspond with anyone who has more information about him or anyone who knows the fate of Club Hipic Sa Jorge. Gracias, Danke, Thanks

On 21 Apr 1942 Skowronski sailed for New Orleans from Buenaventura/Colombia aboard the ship "Acadia" accompanied by the German Consul at Medellin (Reinhard Gundlach) and a German merchant and his family, the remainder of the passengers were approx 25 Japanese men and their families who had been with the Japanese Legation in Columbia. Skowronski declared his POB as Marwalde, the German party were hoping to sail to Germany and the Japanese were hoping to get back to Japan. He was described at 175cm tall, black hair, brown eyes, dark complexion.

On a previous trip to the US in 1927 he gave his POB as Horwalde. He apparently spoke German, Spanish and English.

The last document shown by Albert shows information about Georg Skowronski (he became SS-Ustuf. on 20.02.1934 and was 03.03.1938 as SS-Stubaf. expelled from SS).

SS-Obertruppführer Klemme is the later Generalmajor Willi Klemme (12.06.1884..24.08.1957), from 08.1935 with Wehrmacht
