The SS-Stubaf. Max Dallinger, commander of I./SS-Pz.Gr.Rgt. 35 (16. SS-Pz.Gren.Div.), was removed from command for cowardice before the enemy. Does anyone have more news about what happened? Someone have photos of this officer? Thanks in advance.

Max Dallinger's commands:
Oct 1939 - May 1940..........6./TIR 2
May 1940 - 02 Aug 1940(?)...II./TIR 2
Succeeded SS-Stubaf. Kurt Kummer who was WIA 26 May 1940. SS-OStubaf. Michael Lippert took over 02 Aug 1940 and it's possible that Dallinger had the command until that date. Having been a Bataillon commander he returned to his old command of 6./TIR 2 and again it's possible that he held this command until II./TIR 2 became SS-Feld-Ersatz-Bataillon 3 in May 1941.
23 Feb 1943 - Oct 1943.......I./Sturm-Brig. RFSS
Oct 1943 - Jul 1944...........I./PGR 35

Regards,

Pena V

Edit: My files show Max Dallinger also as the CO of I/SS-Panzer-Regiment 10 in the first half of 1943 but I guess it can not be true.

correction :
1 july 1944, he was with I./35 in area Fagionlaia-porcarecco in the center of the defense line of Pz Gr Rgt 35 . Strong defense of the division therefore on 6 july Gesele decided to replace Dallinger by Heinz Müller considering he "failed" in front of ennemy.
no info on appointment until he was wounded.

I have read with more attention the 16ss Diary and it seems Dallinger was injured on july 3rd an removed the same day. Gesele announced the new commandre of the battalion on july 6th.
So, if it was punished was not for not defending Livorno. On that date combat line was around Rosignano. Or He was removed just because injured? Any Idea?

Hello,
I found these two excerpts in the book « Im gleichen Schritt und Tritt » Truppenkameradschaft 16 SS-Panzergrenadierdivision RFSS

Brief 1987 Hans Brandstetter Ostuf und KpFhr der 1./I./SS-35
page 359
« Ostubaf Gesele (Kr.

My own translation :

Letter 1987 Hans Brandstetter Ostuf und KpFhr der 1./I./SS-35
page 359
"Ostubaf Gesele (Kr. SS PzGrenRgt 35) announces that Dallinger is relieved and Müller would be appointed to the command of I./35.

Letter Ostubaf Albert 20.07.1944
page 447
"Dallinger had to be dismissed because of failure by the service and will be court-martialled.

I didn’t find any mention of an injury for Dallinger.
Does someone have his file?

Regards
Patrick

23. SS‐Frw.Pz.Gren.Div.
means
23. SS-Freiwilligen-Panzergrenadier-Division "Nederland"?

Thank you

I Some confusion here. Upon leaving the SS-Totenkopf-Division in March 1941, I understand that he was posted SS-Junkerschule "Braunschweig" as an instructor. Georges states that in 1942 he was assigned to the Kommandostab "RfSS". However, I have another source who states that Dallinger was assigned to SS-Junkerschule "Tolz" as commander of Lehrgruppe "B" in 1942. Can anyone clear this matter up please?

Hi to all

In early March 1941 Dallinger was assigned to the Junkerschule Tölz where he unitially served as Taktiklehrer before commanding Lehrgruppe B during the 7.KRFAL from 4/06/42 to 5/09/42 and then the 8.KRFAL from 14/09/42 to 12/12/42. He was transferred from the Junkerschule with effect 1/02/43.

Greetings from Madrid

Thanks everybody,
as far as I know he was the commander of I./35 16. SS-Div. "RFSS" but on July 3rd 1944 he was removed by Gesele apparently because he decided to withdraw with no orders. It seems that in that day it was also wounded.
What I would like to know is his fate. Was he court martialed? Where he was transfered?
Greeting from Livorno
Francesco
