SS-Gruppenführer Hermann Fegelein Wounds

#1

Post by Steve Hoog » 09 Apr 2014, 20:41

It is reported Hermann F was wounded three times; and I do not know if the Left Thigh wound from the July 20 assassination attempt is part of the three or a fourth.

I know two were from Snipers and one is reported to have been a severe arm injury.

My question is to anyone that knows how to research this in official documents, can you find or do you know the exact location a nature of each wound?

Georges, thank you sire.

Do you know if it is a dead end to look for the exact location on the body of the wounds?

Mark Yerger's DKiG Volume 4 has the following dates:
15 Oct 1941 WIA
21 Dec 1941 WIA but remained with his command
23 Dec 1942 WIA
13 Sep 1943 WIA for the second time in one week (lower part of arm)
end Nov 1943 WIA
20 Jul 1944 Wounded

I find it interesting that someone who held a rank equivalent to Major General was wounded so often and so many times. Surely he would be operating from a command bunker rather then a front line trench. In any case does anyone know what his particular wounds were, given the times between them I presume they were rather minor and probably shrapnel related.

The location and damage are crucial to my research.

I have been told one sniper shot to the arm was severe, and the July 20 44 was Left Thigh but I need more precise information if anyone knows anything.

Hermann Fegelein appears to have suffered a broken arm during the 20 July Plot.

Mabus, interesting. Strange he might get this and the thigh injury with Günsche and von Below between him and the bomb.

I don't think so:
13.09.1943 erneut südlich Charkow, Höhe 208.5, verwundet (Unterarmdurchschuss links), anschließend im Lazarett
[again injured South of Charkow, through and through bullet wound left arm]
00.09.1943 - 00.11.1943 zugleich im Führerhauptquartier beauftragt als Verbindungsführer der Waffen-SS beim Führer (Arm noch in Gips)
[at the same time in FHQu with arm in a cast]

20.07.1944 beim Attentat auf Hitler im Führerhauptquartier in Rastenburg leicht verwundet (linker Oberschenkel, rechte Hand)
[insignificantly wounded: left thigh and right hand[/i]]
See my pics (Jodl still with head bandage, Fegelein already without bandage for his hand)

Dieter, thanks for the info. The image I found was labeled as "wounded at Rastenburg". Since it wasn't his left arm that was injured during the 20 July plot, I assume the image with his injured left hand is from 1943?

Any photos of him wearing the July 20th Wound Badge?
