Folks,

I'm looking for a precise bio of SS-Oberscharführer Harry STENGRITT (born in Bremen), member of Abteilung IV of the KdS Lyon.

Kind regards,

Thank you Puck!

I don't think STENGRITT said the truth - he disinformed and misled his interrogators (and surely more than once).

A policeman assigned to the GFP he wasn't a member of the Sicherheitsdienst but rather of the Staatspolizei.
Being an exceptionally wise man, he intentionally changed this detail in his testimony - better to look as to have been employed in the little-known SD than in the notorious GESTAPO and, what's more, under the command of the infamous Klaus BARBIE!

"SS-Oberscharführer"? Possibly but rather in combination with the rank of Kriminalassistent.

"Angehöriger der SS-Panzerdivision "HJ"? Bullshit! Rather "Eiffeloffensive" journey within Einsatzgruppe K or L.

Almost all his former Kameraden mentioned in the document are from Abteilung IV of KdS Lyon.
The "SS-OStuf. Thalmann" is Franz TALMANN (*28.12.1895 - †26.05.1944 Lyon), SS-Sturmbannführer (?).

STENGRITT's role in the arrest of Jean MOULIN (who was hunted down by the STAPO, not by the SD) was a very important one. Everything indicates that he was an experienced, clever and cunning field operative in the Referat N of Abteilung IV KdS Lyon and had absolutely nothing to do with some boring compiling of biweekly reports on the mood of queuing housewives in the local markets of Lyon.

"Thalmann" might be SS-Stubaf. Theodor Talmann (*28.12.1895, SS #107327), 01.09.1942 SS-Stubaf.
from Fernsprechverzeichnisse RSHA
in 05.1942 RSHA Ref. I C2 (SS-Hstuf.)
in 06.1943 RSHA Ref. I C2 (SS-Hstuf.?!)

Hello,

This is how Harry Stengritt visited the Ardennes and Italy: after leaving the city around 19-20 August 1944 KdS Marseille was reorganised in Braunschweig, renamed Kommando z.b.V. 3 and subordinated to Einsatzgruppe L under SS-Standartenführer und Regierungsdirektor Dr. iur. Ludwig HAHN.

In January 1945 Kommando z.b.V. 3 was sent to Italy and subordinated to BdS Verona where it formed the Aussendienststelle Bassano del Grappa.

Regards,
