von dem Bach[-Zelewski] & Nebe
von dem Bach[-Zelewski] & Nebe
These 2 photos were taken at the same place when von dem Bach[-Zelewski] and Arthur Nebe stood next to each other. Does anyone have any further photos from this event? When and where was it taken?

Nebe is wearing the rank badges of a SS-Gruppenführer, and he was promoted to this rank on 9 November 1941.
Just about the time he was giving up command of Einsatzgruppe B. Did Bach[-Zelewski] bring along the rank badges?
The weather does not look particularly cold so maybe the photo was take in November 1941, possibly Smolensk where EGr B then had its headquarters.
I hope another AHF member can confirm or provide another time and location

Re: von dem Bach[-Zelewski] & Nebe
This is a common photo of von dem Bach and a common photo of Nebe…but not together. It is obviously spliced between 2 different frames & is clever enough, but the shoulder of von dem Bach just seems "wrong" compared to the well known photo of him. Below is the (cleverly) spliced version on the left and the "well known" version on the right. Granted, it's somewhat of a long shot to find a photo of Nebe with someone standing in almost exactly the same spot as von dem Bach to be able to splice them together, but, as I said…it just seems "wrong." Also, von dem Bach is wearing the Spange to his EK I, which he didn't receive until 20.05.1942, and his KVK I (under his EK I) that he didn't receive until 1943. Just my opinion, of course.steve248 wrote:The weather does not look particularly cold so maybe the photo was take in November 1941, possibly Smolensk where EGr B then had its headquarters.

They are both wearing rank insignia that was not introduced until the Spring of 1942, so it's definitely not as you suggest I'm afraid. It's a slight possibility that the location is RFSS Feldkommandostelle Hegewald near Zhitomir, but Martin might be able to confirm that.

Hello Fred,
I am aware that these 2 pics were taken separately but in very short sequence. Even thought we can easily combine them together. The point why I opened this thread is that up to now no one came with the option to put these 2 great photos together. I was always wondering whose arm is in the Nebe´s picture and who was he talking to. Finally it is clear and I hope that someone else has some other photos of these 2 interesting SS officers from this event.
I know that lot of archives have mistakes in description of their photo collection, but Bundesarchiv says that von dem Bach photo was taken in 1943. (Nebe´s photo gives us range from 42-44).

As I suggested earlier, Himmler's Feldkommandostelle Hegewald is a possibility for the location as the building looks familiar. On 9th September 1942, he was at Hegewald.

Another shot of these 2 SS leaders ... it would be great to see it in good quality.
