SS-Führer-Sportschule Leising (Sachsen)

#1

Post by steve248 » 19 Sep 2014, 15:34

In 1934 a newly commissioned SS-Ustuf attended the SS-Führer-Sportschule at Leising/Sachsen (mentioned in his SSO).

The purpose was not given but possibly training as a junior officer for the Sipo.

However, I cannot even find Leising in Germany: no website listing for Leising, and an atlas listing for a Leising near Nürnberg cannot be said to be Sachsen.

Any ideas or information?

Leisnig see here: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leisnig
Side probably 1933 SA-Sports School and from the spring of 1934, SS-Sports school. Staff probably from the staff "Ausbildungswesen" (AW. people). The SS-sports school was probably later used by the SS-Pioneers (VT.).
Who is the relevant SS Ustuf. ?

The mis-spelling just indicates you cannot always depend on information provided in SSO files.
The SS-Ustuf (at the time) in question was Horst Kopkow.

Thanks both of you for establishing the location.

Horst Kopkow, geb. 29.11.1910; see here : http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horst_Kopkow
DAL1934, Nr. 2683
SS-Nr. 45.034; 61.Sta.
DAL1935, Nr. 1800
F. I/61.Sta. Totenkopfring
DAL1936, Nr. 2336
SD.Hauptamt

Then Kopkow belonged in 1934 to 61.SS-Standarte, see here: http://www.forum-der-wehrmacht.de/index ... ead/33982/
The Sturmbann I / 61 was in Olsztyn / East Prussia. What did Kopkow 1934 in Saxony?

43herta,
Thanks for the information about Kopkow, but I already have 10,000 pages about him and currently writing a biography.

It simply mentions he was at Leisnig, but does not say why. I do not believe he was there for the sports and like so many similar establishments used for officer or Unterführern training.

Regards

His SSO says 27 May to 7 July 1934.

Does this have any significance?

Steve,
these data are very interesting! By mid-May members of the SS-Sonderkommando "Saxony" in Leisnig did a training (sports grounds, infantry). Kopkow came so then after Leisnig. He was at the time of the "Röhm-Putsch" in Leisnig. In Saxony played during this time the SD an important role. Was Kopkow active at that time already for the SD?
So far, I suspected that from the 06/01/1934 SS-sports school moved to Dresden. At least there is this evidence.
Regards.

Kopkow's SSO says he was "aktiv" with 61.SS-Standarte Allenstein from 26 August 1932; and from 1 February 1934 Kriminalangestellter with the new Stapostelle Allenstein. SS-Ustuf from 20 April 1934. And as I mentioned earlier, at Leisnig from 27 May to 7 July 1934 (exactly six weeks).

The Röhm putsch was carried out when Kopkow was at Leisnig but I do not see anything in the literature mentioning murders of SA men in this period either in Leisnig/Leipzig or in Allenstein.

Steve,
I thought that the SS-sports school Leisnig was responsible only for the range SS-Section II. Before 6/30/1934, there was also a parallel SA-sports school in Leisnig, probably “SA-Pionierschule”. But for the “SS-Pionier-Sturmbann” found until early 1935 courses instead. SS-sports schools also existed in other upper sections.
In the SS-Overview Map No.3 from 06/01/1934 'll find the following 6 SS schools:
BAD TÖLZ (Bavaria)
CORBACH (near Arolsen, Hesse)
COSEL (Upper Silesia)
FÜRTH (Franconia)
LEISNIG (Saxony)
MIHLA (Thuringia)
REUTLINGEN (Württemberg)

Perhaps a seminar of the Sipo was held in Leisnig actually. This is very interesting. Maybe I can find also hints at other SSO files from Sipo-leaders.
Röhm-Putsch in Saxony: Shootings in Dresden and Plauen, perhaps Chemnitz, but arrests throughout Saxony.
Regards.

Interesting. I pulled my personnel file for Hans Camp to review it before the SOS. He received the TK ring dated 30.6.1934. His officer file is not really full of info. I can find his officer promotions, but appart from a FP number that tracks back to a GFP unit that was transfered to the SD in 1942, not much else is found. He was an NCO when he received the ring. And, he attended SS-Sportschule Corbach in June/Juli 1934. Chef AW is also mentioned in his file. Again, an SS Sportschule for someone having association with the Night of the Long Knives; and ultimate SIPO connection.
