Please can anybody name this officer who had served 1914-18 and may have been in the Ukraine in mid-1942 based on the other photos in the selection in the NARA Kriegsberichter collection.

When do you think the photos where shot?
I can search for the SS-Ostuf. That served in the SS-KBA. at the time.

Thank you Michael
I suspect it was April - September 1942.

Best way to search for such an officer's identity is to check the name of the photographer (it's stated in the source), try to find out in which platoon he served and check who was his platoon commander, because that's probably who this guy was.

Cheers,
Ivan

Hello

One suggestion is Herbert Bonda 23.11.1895, in Berlin, SS-Ostuf. on 30.01.43. But I`m not 100%.
But all the medals fit.

Best regards
Georg

Hello

I can now confirm that it´s Herbert Bonda, this after checkinghis SSO , and my files from the Kurt Eggers (T-354 and RS 16 Barch freiburg.)

I attach the photo from his SSO, pretty damaged but I compared the ears and they are a 100% match.

Best regards
Georg

Sure looks like him - nice find. In that case, not a Zugführer, but a Wortberichter, 1st Platoon.

The photographer was Damm-Jensen, a soldier. It would be good if someone could confirm him serving in the 1st Platoon. For those interested in him and the SS-KBA, these are his self-portraits, made in front of a mirror (images unmirrored by me, to show what he really looked like):
