Himmler trip to Gerardmer 1944

#1

Post by Georges JEROME » 11 Apr 2015, 15:08

On september 1944, Himmler went in Vosges mountains to prepare the defense of the area in regard of the retreat of german troops from South following the double front opened after the landings in Normandy and in Provence.

He is said arriving at Gérardmer (Vosges) on 5 september 1944 and having a meeting the 6th with Blaskowitz (OB Heeresgruppe G) and Oberg (always HSSPF Frankreich) at the Villa Chevalier at Gérardmer about this question and the opération Waldfest.

Do you have more infos upon this trip.
Did he visit others places in France ?
Do you know who are the others people attending this meeting ?

Thanks

Georges

extract from interrogation by french military intelligence dated 9.12.45 (UK VA KV 2/1668 courtesy Steve 248)

RFSS start an inspection with HSSPF Südwest (Stuttgart), General der Polizei Hofmann in his capacity of newly appointed responsible for the security and the protection of West défenses and Westwall (Hitler's decree 2 sept 1944) to see the measures taken to protect HJ involved in works for protection. He met Oberg at Gérardmer (Vosges) and between others subjects upon security in Vosges area after the retrait of HG G from France he deal with the conflict between Isselhorst (BdS Strasbourg) and Oberg (for BdS Paris) about the authority over protection of the HJ by Kommandos of SIPO SD. Finally Oberg won. That was during this trip that Himmler decided to replace Knochen dissmissed by Suhr because of his "background". He later won RK for his action in defensive matters.
