SS-Hstuf. Stein - Einsatzkommando Badonviller 1944

#1

Post by Georges JEROME » 29 Jul 2015, 16:38

Hello,

I found info that SS-Hstuf. (?) Hermann Stein headed an Einsatzkommando SIPO-SD at Badonviller in Vosges Mountains on august 1944 under the authority of the BdS Frankreich retired from Paris to Nancy. He fight against resistance and S.A.S. commandos in his area.
I tried to find info upon his position in France in files/books upon Gestapo in France. No mention.

Anyone has heard of him?

Thanks for help.

Georges

Hi Georges

I don't know his position in 1944 but I believe he was SS-Hstuf. Hermann Stein,
born 26 Jul 1891 at Pforzheim
Served 1914-18

SS # 103.485
Party # 3.457.298

Promoted SS-Hstuf. on 1 Sep 1943

I have a file from London National Archives somewhere (WO235/558) concerning Vosges - I will check to see what mention he gets in there.

Georges

In a British war crimes investigation into the killing of two prisoners, British paratroopers, at Le Harcholet in Vosges, SS-Hstuf. Hermann Stein was identified as Gestapo chief in Badonvilliers at the time, Aug-Sept 1944,
Home address: Kettenstrasse, Pforzheim; 1.70m tall; fair hair; thin face; medium build; scars on face; speaks fluent French.
source: National Archives, Kew, WO 311/73

They did not trace him.

I think this was in regard to the murders of two members of "A" Squadron, 2 SAS Regiment, Donald Lewis and Selwyn Brown who were involved in Operation Loyton and were captured on 7 Oct 1944 and murdered on 16 Oct 1944. They are buried at Moussey.

Lt in Artillery during WW I
Some sources indicate he could have been member of the G.F.P.
When he left Vosges, he was sent in Slovakia (EGr. H ?).

I check always through staff of Außenstellen SIPO SD of France. Nothing in Befehlsblatt der CSSD.

Hello,
Hermann STEIN was SD Kommandeur in Badonviller from ? (end) august to 15 september. After that he left Badonviller and went to La Bresse (Piquante Pierre).
In my opinion it is impossible that STEIN was in Le Harcholet to kill the parachutists. The responsable is Hstf WENGER !

Hello Dany,

During the retreat of german army from France, Einsatzkommando SIPO SD were set up with staff of former KdS to secure the Vosges areas .
Units were set up Under BdS Elsass and BdS Frankreich (now HQ at Nancy) known as Operation Waldfest.
So Badonviller became the HQ of one of these mobile squads because there is a very active resistance group in this town.
