So you do not know where your grandfather was born? When he died? Where he lived and what he did before and after the war?

Re: Adolf Bohlmann
The Nazis in charge of carrying out the deportations and murders in Zamosc were: Adolf Bohlmann and
his commander Gotthard Schubert.
Did someone know more about this.

Re: Adolf Bohlmann
Schubert was in Russian captivity until released in 1955.
Apparently re-joined the West German police until war crimes charges were placed against him
Tried by Landgericht Wiesbaden and convicted of complicity ("Beihilfe") in 28,000 murders; sentenced to 6 years imprisonment on 1 March 1973.
Died shortly afterwards.

Re: Adolf Bohlmann
Schubert was not Bohlmann's superior (who was the head SD-Aussenstelle) but head of Grenzpolizeikommissariat (actually Gestapo) in this town/area.
Chief of Gestapo in Zamość were:
1939-06.1941, KR Hans Block (transferred to the East)
06.1941-09.1942, KK Gotthard Schubert (from Lublin and returned to Lublin)
09.1942-09.1943, KI Erich Wendland (from Lublin and returned to Lublin)
09.1943-07.1944, KK Gotthard Schubert (from Lublin)
SD-Aussenstelle Zamość:
1939-summer 1941, SS-Ostuf Alexis Krüger (transferred next to Chełm)
1941-1943, SS-Ostuf Adolf Bohlmann (transferred to Lublin)
1943-1944, Hübner (transferred from Lublin)
See my post on Schubert, with some biographical details: http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... t#p1163409
As Steve posted above he was tried in 1973 in Wiesbaden.

Re: Adolf Bohlmann
Another mysterious man is this Erich Wendland, K-Insp and head of GPK Zamość 1942-1943. He was listed once in Befehlsblatt "KOS Wendland with KdS Lublin promoted to K-Insp", BBL 17/1943.
On the SS list we have two men named Erich Wendland, both connected with Police/SD:
1) Erich Wendland, born 20.04.1893 Berlin, SS no 451 577, no Party number, SS-Ustuf 14.12.1942
2) Erich Wendland, born 30.12.1900 Berlin, SS no 16 477, NS no 429 660, SS-Ustuf 20.04.1940
It must be one of them but which? Anyway this Wendland from Zamość died in 1961 in West Germany.

Re: Adolf Bohlmann
Additional information about that mysterious Hübner:
It could be SS-Hscharf. Gerhard Hübner, born 28.02.1911 Frankfurt/Oder, who was listed as member of KdS Lublin in November 1940. In 1943 and 1944 he could already have had the rank of SS-Ustuf.

Re: Adolf Bohlmann
Gerhard Hübner (born 28 Feb 1911, Frankfurt/Oder) was commissioned SS-Ustuf on 9 Nov 1942. He was an SD officer.
Bohlmann - the first abbreviation E.K.f.FK is a WW1 order: Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer.
Incidentally, Bohlmann came out of WW1 with a 25% war injury but no sign of a Verwundetenabz. Maybe he was gassed.
In the earlier post about the two Wendlands - it was Erich Wendland (born 1893) who was at Zamosc and Lublin; promoted KI from KOS in 1943.
