Jim, all I could find was in Yerger's "Allgemeine SS" wherein he wrote that Wolff's CoS and later Deputy undertook actual command of the 29th Waffen-SS Gren.Div. (Italianische Nr. 1). Perhaps you have some sources on that division that could be a start.
Okay. Looking in Mehner's Waffen SS -Polizei volume, Christian Hansen, Gustav Lombard and Constantin Heldmann are listed as the successive Kommandeurs from Sept 1944 to Mar 1945.

The 29th SS Italian Division was formed in september 1943 with italian fascists and prisoners.
According Himmler they were cowards and italians had special SS insignia (only battalion Debica had black insignia; that battalion was trained by SS german officers in Poland) : red insignia without runes and a fascist eagle.
They had italian m33 helmet carcano rifles italian m29 camo and some K 98k.
They fought bravely on Anzio front and many were killed (they had black insignia).
After fought in North Italy against Partisans they had remplacements.
Finally they were in first line against US and Brasilian soldiers (on 15000 men only thousands survived for example SS-Untersturmführer Pio Filippani Ronconi because partisans massacred POW's for example the italienischer SS-Kommandant Alois Luis Thaler, shot and hang ; now buried in Brunico cemetery).
Many were in 1944 in Mid Italy and many joined this Division as Mauro De Mauro and Memmo Carotenuto

Joe,
A strong possibility is Eugen Wenner, he was his chief adj. so maybe ? Found his name in the book " The Secret Surrender" by Dulles.
