Thanks

The Bittrich photo posted above by Requin Marteau shows a man with stripes and a chevron below the cuff title on his left arm. What are these stripes and chevron?

Fennicus,
the insignia on the sleeve are shooting awards from the Reichswehr that SS men were entitled to wear on their SS uniform in the early 1930s.

Thank you, Derek,

They looked just like that, but I can't remember seeing these insignia worn on SS uniforms before. You always learn something new...

Too bad there were no SS-Fliegerstaffel units active during WWII. I know that Hermann Göring had said that everything that flies belong to the Luftwaffe.

Out of interest, SS-Brif. (then SS-Gruf.) Dr. Max Thomas when BdS Ukraine stationed in Kiew (1942-1943), had a Fieseler Storch at his disposal.
What unit operated it?

I think in Thomas' SSO there is report of him flying over partisan bands and dropping grenades out of the plane.

Hitler's bandit Hunter dedicated to Bandenkampfverbande mention in chapter "central and technical formations" pages 134 and following mention Fieseler Fi156 and 7th Special Flying Group.
Best regards

You mean the Pol-Fliegerstaffel z.b.V.7?
