SS-Gruf. Robert Bergmann

Post by laurens » 07 Sep 2003, 14:11

Does anyone has some info about Brigade Führer Robert Bergmann, Adjutant of Ernst Röhm.

Does he survive the Röhm-putsch? And if he did, what was his function or further role in the SS.

Any help will be much appreciated!

Bergmann survived the Purge but was dismissed from the SS he worked in industry during the war. Dr Benno Martin SS OGF asked that he be re-admitted into the SS but Himmler wrote to say that the mater would be reconsidered at the end of the war.

I have discovered while looking through Eleanor Hancock's notes to her biography of Ernst Röhm that this man was Röhm's "best friend" and that he even saved Röhm's life during the Great War. Röhm apparently states this himself. Did Bergmann first begin in the SA and then go over to the SS? It is interesting to note that if he was so close to Röhm personally, why was he under Himmler's direct leadership and not Röhm's?

Here is some interesting material on Bergmann: http://www.ifz-muenchen.de/archiv/zs/zs-0827.pdf

And here is the biographical sketch of him that appears in my book Leaders of the SS & German Police, Volume I. Although he was not an SA leader per se, because of his close connection to Röhm and the SA, I will be including an expanded biography (with a lot of additional information, most of it from Bavarian military archives) of him in the eventual Leaders of the Storm Troops, Volume II (which will cover SA-Ogruf. from P to W and SA-Gruf. from A to K).

Thankyou Mike.
Below are pasted notes from Hancock's book that illustrate the close relations between the two men:

He was the closest to Robert Bergmann: Röhm, Geschichte eines Hochverräters, p. 39. In a 1934 speech, Röhm called Bergmann “the best comrade of my life”: quoted in 26 May 1934, Heinz Wulff, “Der Stabschef besichtigt Frankens S.A.”, Der S.A.-Mann, 3/21, 26 May 1934, p. 2.

23.
Röhm, Geschichte eines Hochverräters, p. 47. Röhm always regarded Bergmann as having saved his life: 13 April 1948, Robert Bergmann, “Lebenslauf.”, Amtsgericht München Entnazifizierungsakten Hauptkammer Nürnberg

Can anyone provide me with the date of marriage and maiden name of Robert Bergmanns wife.

They had (at least)three children, E. an “Leutnant in der Landespolizei, H. was a “Führeranwärter im RAD”, and R. an Assistenzärztin in Görlitz”;
