His crimes at Belsen earned him the nickname "The Beast of Belsen" from the british public. He also served at the first commandant at Esterwegen and fourth at Natzweiler. Succeeding Adolf Haas, Kramer became the second commandant at the Bergen-Belsen camp, the conditions at the camp quickly deteriorated and with new arrivals be evacuated in from other camps, the diseases typhus, thyphoid and diptheria ravaged the camp population. And Kramer & his SS guards negligence also contributed to thousands of deaths. The British liberated the camp on the 16th April 1945. What they found enraged them, several guards were shot out of hand and the rest were made to clean the camp, which was then burned to the ground. Kramer was put on trial with 44 other SS guards and Kapos. He was found guilty of war crimes and sentenced to death. Kramer was hanged with 12 other guards on the 13th December 1945.
