Bernhard Baatz - KdS Reichenberg ?

#1

Post by Simon » 23 Jan 2004, 18:38

I have found some info that SS-Obersturmbannführer Bernhard Baatz (SS#46414) was KdS Reichenberg (maybe 1944/45).

Is this true ? If it is, when ?

Is also looking for date of promotion to SS-Ostubaf. and SS-Stubaf.

Baatz was arrested 26 Jun 1967 by West German police and charged with complicity in the mass murders of Jews and Polish workers during WWII while serving with the SD (Polish Department) (NYT 27 Jun 1967:3:4), but I have no subsequent disposition on the case.

Hi Simon,

Some informations t o add:
Born as son of a Garnisonsverwaltungsinspektor in Graudenz. Elementary school in Graudenz. Secondary school (humanist) in Dessau. Studied law in Jena and Halle.
Joined the NSDAP in February 1932, also the SS in 1932.
Junior jurist (Referendar) inter alia at Stapoleitstelle in Berlin. After his second examination he entered the Gestapa as an assistant-judge (Referendar), Kirchenreferat (church-affairs). The declaration, that he was the leader of the Stapoleitstelle Linz after the annexion of Austria (so reported in Gerhard Paul: “Ganz normale Akademiker” in Gerhard Paul / Klaus-Michael Mallmann “Die Gestapo - Mythos und Realität, Darmstadt 1995) is unconfirmed and cannot be found in his personal files.
Already provided as leader of a Einsatzgruppe for Poland in the first meeting of Heydrich 05.07.1939 (“P-Vorbereitung“) with his ”Amtschefs“. In September 1939 with the Staff of the Einsatzgruppe IV (Lothar Beutel) in Poland (Bromberg, Warschau). He himself ordered shootings of polish peoples (repoted in the the trial 17.09.1976)
Returned at the beginning of December 1939 he leaded the “Referat Besetzte polnische Gebiete” (II O / RSHA), in January 1940 transformed into Referat IV D 2 / RSHA (Gouvernementsangelegenheiten) until summer 1940; he advocated Schutzhaft and executions especially for the intelligence.
In July 1940 he established the “Referat für die besetzten Westgebiete” IV D 4 (the occupied Western areas after the Western campaign).
In April 1941 he took over the Sachgebiet (section) “Ausländische Arbeiter”, since 03.12.1941 (first sitting, organized by Baatz himself) as the representative of the RSHA in the “Arbeitskreis für Sicherheitsfragen beim Ausländereinsatz” (commission for security-problems in the sortie of the foreigners). He was succeeded in this “Zwangsarbeiterreferat“ by Dr. Fritz Rang.
31.10.1943 - 15.10.1944 leader of the Einsatzkommando 1 (Ek 1) and KdS Estland (Reval), succeeding Martin Sandberger.
00.10.1944 - 00.00.1945 KdS Reichenberg / Sudetenland.

In the Federal Republic he raised to director of the Mannesmann-Wohnungsbaugesellschaft in Duisburg.
He was arrested 26.06.1967 for the RSHA-complex together with Joachim Deumling, Harro Thomsen, Emil Berndorff and Fritz Wöhrn and brought by plane to the Berlin-Moabit prison.
Spared from arrest at the end of 1968 after alteration of the jurisdiction handling Baatz as a helpmate, not as a perpetrator (so as Hitler, Himmler and Heydrich). The RSHA-complex ended after the judgement of the High Court (Bundesgerichtshof) in May 1969.

Doch Thomas. Nur hat sich leider dann bald die Rechtslage geändert und alle konnten sich auf Befehlsnotstand berufen.
