SD Tanzman, Dr.; identity two SD; 8 Kp. Reg. 3 Brandenburg

#10

Post by mishka28 » 05 Dec 2005, 02:29

I found the following file reference to Tanzman:

Fernsprechverzeichnis der Polizei und SS-Dienststellen in Frankreich
Stand 1.8.43

Sicherheitspoltzei (SD) - Einsatzkommando Montpellier
Dienstelle: Montpellier, Ancien Chemin de Castellinaux

TANZMAN, Dr. SS-Obersturmbannführer, Kommandeur
HINRICHS SS Haupsturmführer, Vertreter

Perhaps someone could help me with two research problems involving the SD in the south of France, and one research problem involving the 8 Kp. Reg. 3 Div. Brandenburg.

The first is the identify of an SD officer stationed at Sommieres (Gard), near Montpellier and Nimes, in 1944. He is given the name "SS Graf Anschütz von Ulsen" in a French article, but think it likely that that name is intentionally incorrect. At the time, July 1944, elements of the 9 Div. "Hohenstaufen" were in Sommieres (FpNr. 39720: Versorg.Kp.Felders Btl. 60; FpNr. 45589: 1 Kp. FeldersBtl. 60); perhaps he had a formal relationship with 9 Div, which had first arrived in Sommieres in 1943. More likely, it seems, he reported to SD in Montpelier or Nimes. In any case, he worked closely with 8 Kp Regt. 3 Brandenburg based at Fort Vauban, Ales, Cevennes (FpNr. 15727), which in August 1944 became Streifkorps Südfrankreich Div. Brandenburg.

The second is the identity of the chief of the Gestapo in Ales, "Hans, who worked with the 8 Kp. Reg. 3 Brandenburg. The French resistance refered to him as Gestapo but he must have been SD.

Would there be a list of SD personel in France which might identify these two men?

The third is names of members of the 8 Kp. Reg. 3 Brandenburg. I have some, but would like a complete list.

I have checked numerous threads on AHF containing information on KdS Bordeaux:

KdS in France (Questions to the commanders)

SS & Polizei staff in Lyon, France

http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 5&start=30

SS-Sturmbannführer Erich Lutter
http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=35621

The following names appear for KdS in the period May 1942- October 1943:
1. Erich Lutter
2. Franz Luther
3. Hans Luther

It has alreday been established that Erich Lutter was not KdS Bordeaux. It has also been established that Hans Luther was KdS Bordeaux. See: SS-Sturmbannführer Erich Lutter, http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=35621
However, no comment was given on Franz Luther as KdS Bordeaux.

Searching sites out of AHF one usually finds Hans Luther mentioned as KdS Bordeaux May 1942- October 1943 but Franz Luther is also mentioned - see http://papon.sudouest.com/index.php?pag ... e&cat=con4.

Yet, the most interesting site is to be found at http://ebooks.gutenberg.us/Wordtheque/fr/AAAALI.TXT
There, KdS Bordeaux is named as follows:
a) Le lieutenant Franz LUTHER remplaça le lieutenant HAGEN à la tête de ce nouvel organisme jusqu'au 19 OCTOBRE 1943
b) SS Luther, chef de la police allemande à Bordeaux
c) Franz Luther, responsable du KDS (police de sűreté et de sécurité allemande)
d) KDS dirigé par Hans Luther, jusqu'en octobre 1943
It seems that names Franz Luther and Hans Luther are used alternatively which makes one believe that the man was called Hans Franz Luther.

Is there someone who can solve the puzzle?
