Final rank of "Sepp" Lainer (RKT / NKS III.St.)...

#1

Post by Michael Miller » 19 Jul 2004, 20:10

Most sources I've seen (e.g. Schneider, Krätschmer) give the final rank of "Sepp" Lainer (RK, NKS in Gold) as SS-Oberscharführer, but I've found one reference- a biographical sketch in his Waffen-SS NCO file- to him as SS-Hauptscharführer. Does anyone know if he did in fact attain the rank of SS-Hschaf.?

Many thanks in advance,
~ Mike Miller

Mike,

Among a number of documents sent to me by Sepp Lainer himself is one in which he gives a date of January 1944 as being promoted to SS Hauptscharfuhrer,

Hope this helps,

Paul

a small correction

Sepp Lainer is born in Brixen im Thale/Bezirk Kitzbühel/Tirol/Österreich
not Südtirol.....(this is Italy!)

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brixen_im_Thale

and a smal addition

Sepp Lainer got the
Verwundetenabzeichen in Gold on 15.Sept.1943
for five wounds
8.7.1941
23.9.1941
14.10.1941
23.2.1943 and
15.08.1943

Thanks for that correction, which is actually quite significant, and for the award date for the VA i.Gold.

Best,
