The "Schwimmwagen photo". Of course. How silly of me. I should have realized that Peiper was an Unterscharführer in KG Knittel and drove passed the Kaiserbaracke crossroads on 18. Dec. 1944. Thanks for correcting me.
...give me one good reason why summer camo means Western Front instead of Kursk?Joachim Chan wrote:The first photo was taken at Western Front (note the summer camo)

The first pic is hardly from Western Front 44.Peiper was awarded with EL in 27.1.44 and i don't see EL in that pic.
That same pic is also in cover of Reynold's book The Devil's Adjutant and he suggest that pic was taken in 11.7.43 during Kursk. And indeed there's a very similiar pic in Lehmann's Die Leibstandarte Im Bild in page227.It shows Peiper,Wolf,Guhl and Wandt before attack on Hill 252.2 in 11.7.43.
Cheers/Juha
Ps.Timo .I don't think that HerrGeneral is the first one (and surely not the last) to be fooled with Peiper's "douple" in Kaiserbaracke.

a) the man in the picture, often captioned as "Ochsner", is an Unterscharführer. Peiper was an Obersturmbannführer
b) Peiper wasn't anywere near this location, the Kaiserbaracke crossroads.
c) Peiper didn't use a Schwimmwagen.
No doubt about it, it's NOT Peiper. No pictures of Peiper in the Ardennes exist.
