Hi, Steve.

Very interesting- just curious, but what is your source for Bierkamp's date and place of death?

Best wishes,
~ Mike

And I believe Knochen was appointed with Oberg in May 1942.

Bierkamp death

Post by steve248 » 11 Mar 2005, 17:52

I have a copy of his death certificate and photograph (mine) of his gravestone.
He is buried with his wife at [gravesite location deleted by moderator/Mike Miller].
I will see about scanning the photo and posting it here , but I'm a bit of a novice at
this.

[Thanks very much fo the information, Steve, but it is an unofficial policy here to omit specific gravesite locations; this is to discourage the desecration or consecration of such sites. A photo of the grave itself, provided no discernible landmarks appear in the frame, would be greatly appreciated, however/Best wishes, ~ Mike Miller]

steve248 wrote:Incidentally, I am not convinced by your entry for Walter Bierkamp with BdS France.

There is a Heydrich order of 12 February 1941 (letterhead of RSHA I C (a) 1a) addressed to SS-Ostubaf ORuKR Walter Bierkamp "z.Zt. beim Befehlshaber der Sicherheitspolizei und des SD in Den Haag" cancelling his existing appointment as Kripoleiter Hamburg and appointing him Inspekteur, IdS Wehrkreis VI (Düsseldorf), with effect from 15 Feb 1941.
(DDR files at Berlin-Hoppegarten, ZR 523 Akte I p. 63).

Bierkamp was a suicide on 15 May 1945 at Scharbeutz (near his home); Mark Yerger in his "Allgemeine SS..." gives an incorrect explanation and date of death.
That is quite true but he was sent to Paris 30.9.1941 and Karl Pütz acted as his standing deputy in Dusseldorf I believe it was because the incumbant in Paris Dr Max Thomas had been taken ill

No problem, Steve- you were just being helpful/informative, and like I say, the "rule" is unofficial so you wouldn't have found it in the forum guidelines. Thanks again.

Best wishes,
