SS & Polizei staff in Lyon, France
Re: SS & Polizei staff in Lyon, France
I'm still interested to know which of the tried men mentioned by Danyb has an officersrank....
And who is this 2) hans luther: 5 years imprisonment ??
Is this the Hans Luther who's name I've found in the book called 'Wandlungsprozesse in Westdeutschland: http://books.google.nl/books?id=HBCC6LH ... ke&f=false ??
Here they say: 'Einer von ihnen war Hans Luther.
But also Erich Lutter is mentioned as KdS Bordeaux between 5-42 and 11-43, this in the overview Phil posted on page 1 from this thread. On that same page Steve said that not Erich Lutter was KdS Bordeaux but Hans Luther was KdS Bordeaux. Strange thing is that besides Hans Luther mentioned as KdS in that book 'Wandlungsprozesse in Westdeutschland' I can't find anything more about him(no total DoB, no SS-number if he had one, etc. etc.). And about Erich Lutter there's info enough here on the forum.....
Greetings, Mike

Hans Luther (* March 10th 1879 in Berlin , † May 11 1962 in Düsseldorf ) was a German jurist, politician and financial expert.
It has almost no information on his activities during the War.

On the Homepage of the Institut d’histoire du temps présent (IHTP)
there is a letter by the Militärbefehlshaber Frankreich dated 27.01.1943. In foot-note 49 the authors mention a "Fritz Hollert as KdS Lyon.

My source obviously seems to be wrong.
Do I understand the date you give correctly as the date of promotion as SS-Hstuf.?

No, he was promoted to Hstuf. earlier than July 1944.
Re: SS & Polizei staff in Lyon, France
Hollert is mentioned as SS-Hstuf in BBL 45/43 when mentioned as receiving on 18 Sept 1943 a "Anerkennungen" from the RFSS Himmler.
Two authors who wrote about Klaus Barbie in Lyon, Ladislas de Hoyos and Tom Bower, both mentioned that Hollert was responsible for setting the KdS Lyon organization in Sept 1942; and that in 1943 he was acting Kommandeur between the departure of Rolf Mühler and the arrival of Werner Knab.
I wonder if Hollert is the "SS-Ostuf. Heinrich Hollert" of SD-Leitabschnitt Berlin who died on Sipo/SD Einsatz in May 1944 (BBL 34/44).

Here are a couple of photos for the thread. These show the Gestapo/SD Lyon headquarters the morning of the Lyon bombing of 26th May 1944 (approx 631 dead across Lyon). Here is some context (translated from original)

Detail (contd.)
sourceAfter the defeat of 1940, the school must accommodate a part of the students of The École Polytechnique folded in Lyon; a part of the standards is housed at the hospital Villemanzy. In November 1942 the Germans occupied Lyon: the standards are retreating on Villemanzy and the new hospital Desgenettes in construction; they must put themselves in civilian and the ESSM becomes the ESS. The school is occupied by the Germans, it became the headquarters of the Gestapo: partisans there are interrogated and tortured, many do not survive. On 26 May 1944 the bombing of the tracks by the allies reached the school: façade building is destroyed.

Sipo German SD (police and service of
German security in Lyon): section IV of the Gestapo, led by Klaus Barbie.
It's at the school of the military health service of many resistance fighters and Jews are brought for questioning.
Held at Leyburn, the prisoners were transferred in the day to the school of health to undergo questioning in the cellars of the building.
