Here is the information on Kummer that appears in John Moore’s Führerliste der Waffen-SS CD-Rom:

Best,
~ Mike

Kummer, Kurt
SS-Sturmbannführer der Waffen-SS

Born: 11.11.1900 in Kölleda / Thüringen.
Missing in Action: 09.12.1943

NSDAP-Nr.: ??? ???
SS-Nr.: 24 883

Career:
[as of 07.1939] SS-Hauptsturmführer and Chef of 5.Sturm / SS-Standarte „Germania“.
[as of 05.1940] SS-Sturmbannführer and Kommandeur of II. Bataillon / SS-Totenkopf-Infanterie-Regiment 2.
[as of 04.1941] SS-Sturmbannführer and Kommandeur of II. Bataillon / SS-Infanterie-Regiment „Westland“ / SS-Division „Wiking“
[as of 08.1942] SS-Sturmbannführer and Kommandeur III. Bataillon / SS-Panzer-Grenadier-Regiment „Westland“.
[as of 10.1943] SS-Sturmbannführer and Kommandeur of SS-Kavallerie-Regiment 17 / SS-Kavallerie-Division.
[as of 12.1943] Degraded to SS-Hauptsturmführer, assigned to 1.SS-Panzer-Division „Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler“.

Same source gives him as Kommandeur SS-Infanterie-Regiment „Westland“ / SS-Division „Wiking“ in March 1942, but my records indicate SS-Obersturmbannführer Harry Polewacz held this post from 02.07.1941 to 12.01.1943.

Hello Michael,

I've written down that Polewacs was commander from third battallion within the 'Nordland' Regiment in November and December 1941. And I've written down he was commander from 'Westland' Regiment between September 1942 and 12-1-1943.

Greetings,
Mike

Book "Panzer Grenadier der Panzerdivision Wiking im Bild": they also use the period of september 1942 when Polewacz took over the command of Westland.

I also would like to know the exact date!

And tomalbright had the following info on him in another post.

Kummer, Kurt, SS-Hstuf. (Degrad.)
* 11.11.00 Kölleda/Thür.
SS-Nr.: 24.883, 1. SS-Pz.Div. 12.43 ‡ 9.12.43
SS-Stubaf. Kdr. SS-Kav.Rgt. 17 10.43
SS-Stubaf. Kdr. III./SS-Inf.Rgt. 10 08.42
SS-Stubaf. Kdr. SS-Inf.Rgt. 10 03.42
SS-Stubaf. Kdr. II./Pz.GR.10 04.41
SS-Stubaf. Kdr. II./SS-T-IR 2 05.40

As far as I know SS-Infanterie-Regiment 10 was part of 1. SS-Infanterie-Brigade or am I wrong??
SS-Panzergrenadier-Regiment 10 was part of 'Wiking', but this is not an Infanterie-Regiment.

Hope somebody can clear this a bit up because I'm totally confused right now.

Actually Kurt Kummer was not in the LAH at the time of his death, but remained in the "Florian Geyer" in either the Felders.Btl. or Kav.Rgt.17. I have had some recent contact from his daughter who told me how her family was living at Arolsen when a soldier came to the door with the bad news. Kummer will be covered in more detail in Mark Yerger's book about the cavalry DKiG holders.

A couple of observations:
1. A lot of new information to me. Thanks for that.
2. My files show that Kummer was WIA as CO of II./Totenkopf-Infanterie-Regiment 2 in May 1940 and succeeded by Max Dallinger. I wonder where that came from.
3. If Kummer started in II./Westland already 10 Jul 1940 he must have been in the Aufstellungsstab because the unit was officially ready 01 Dec 1940.
4. Kummer's assingments in 1. SS-Brigade include at least the following: CO of II./SS-Infanterie-Regiment 10 (-08 May 1942) and CO of III./SS-Infanterie-Regiment 10 (Jul 1942-1942).
5. Any info what were his assingments in SS-Kavallerie-Regiment 3/17?

K. ist seit 9. Dez. 43 vermisst.

[...]A Kampfgruppe under Kummer, based on the Feld-Ersatz-Abteilung, was established on November 25, 1943, to reinforce SS-Kavallerie-Regiment 15. Kummer ordered his men to leave him behind due to his severe wounds received in Kirowograd, Russia, he died that day. He was survived by his wife and five children[...]
