Hello,

I'm looking for help in determining when some of the more famous photos of Brommann were taken. The photos I'm thinking of are those where his head is bandaged and he is seen with Friedrich Herzig during a smaller awards ceremony for a few of the men from s.SS-Pz.Abt.503. Due to the bandaged head they are commonly stated to be from after 25 March 1945, when he was wounded by shrapnel to his head, right ear and right eye. But as I understand these wounds were so severe that he was evacuated to Hela and then via Swinemünde to Flensburg. In my mind it is not possible that these photos are from after 25 March 1945. Furthermore, the situation after 25 March did not allow for any such candid ceremonies or breaks, as the Soviet assault on Danzig put enormous pressure on the few German forces still available in the area. The photos have to be from much earlier.

Any help or hints are welcome.

Best regards

Hello,

I managed to open the link to the biography by Balsi through the Wayback Machine over on archive.org. In that text I found that Brommann was wounded on 2 March 1945, when he suffered burns to his head and hands. While I'm not entirely convinced, as the photos do not show any bandage on his hands, it may be that they are taken shortly after this date.

Best regards

According to himself he was (always I believe he once stated) in the 2nd Company of s.SS-PzAbt.503 what he also has written in his own handwriting on this photo as you can see.
Also in http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Gli ... Inhalt.htm there's a note after his name 'SS-Untersturmführer Karl Brommann (? S.a. 2.Kp.)' what I think means 'Selb angegeben 2.Kompanie' (Self declared 2nd. Company).
