SS Ostubaf LAH?

#1

Post by harmel » 14 Oct 2005, 20:52

Hi,
it is hard to make out the cuff title, Iknow they served briefly in Italy, and a sub-unit was involved in anti -partisan duties, which apparently led to atrocities. The picture I believe was taken during the collapse of the Italian Govt, failing that could he be an officer from Sturm Brigade (Reichsfuhrer SS) wich served in Corsica, also on anti-partisan ops. But he is definately not Karl Gesele.
Anyone add to this please
Regards Harmel :?

Don't know who he is, but here he is again (same occasion, definitely LSSAH).

This photo shows a LSSAH man with lower rank, but it was taken 4 years before (early September 1939).
I think it could be the same man.

Possible ID

Hi guys,

Going through Lehmann's Volume 3 list of people holding positions in LSSAH around this period, (Italy 1943) there are three possible Obersturmbannführer that I haven't seen a photo of, so it should hopefully be one of these;

Quartiermeisterabteilung Ib 2. Generalstabsoffizier, Obersturmbannführer Stoltz
Commander of III Bataillon, 1st SS Panzergrenadier Regiment 1, Obersturmbannführer Weidenhaupt
Commander Instandsetzungsabteilung, Obersturmbannführer Helmut Groß

I think Weidenhaupt is in one of my books somewhere, (I'll have another look) so I don't think it's him, probably Stoltz or Groß.

Anyone got a photo of either of these men?

Cheers
Steve

Hello, Steve,
if you have more info on Stoltz & Groß,
maybe these decorations could be helpful...?

It's Stoltz

Hi guys,

Looking through "Leibstandarte im Bild" by Lehmann, I found photos of all three men, Weidenhaupt, Helmut Groß and Stoltz. I'm pretty sure it's Stoltz, who had the post of Quartiermeisterabteilung Ib 2. Generalstabsoffizier from at least July 1943 to July 1944. Sorry, that's all I know about him at the moment.

Here's the photo, which comes from pre-war, but he looks like the right man. (he's number 6 in the photo)

Cheers
Steve

It cannot be Georg-Gunther STOLTZ as he never received the Iron Cross First Class.

Hi there,

You are of course correct, as this was discovered in another thread, the man is;

SS-Ostubaf. (21.6.43) Hans-Joachim Schiller, Kdr. I./SS-Pz.Gren.Rgt.1/LSSAH.

As can be seen in this thread;

Steve, I own the original of Stoltz's service contract signed by hand by Himmler. I have a fair amount of information about him but I miss a few important bits of info. I understand that Stoltz survived the war and died in Germany well after the end of the war. He was replaced as Ib of the 1.SS Panzer Division LAH in July 1944. He may gave been wounded in Normandy shortly after the D-Day invasion. Would you or anybody else have information on what happened to him after the invasion and when and where he died.
