#1

Post by Ivan Ž. » 16 Oct 2005, 04:40

Can someone post biographies of Karstjäger commanders, please:
- SS-Staf. Dr. Hans Brand
- SS-Stubaf. Josef Berschneider
- SS-Ostubaf. Karl Marx
- SS-Stubaf. Werner Hahn
- SS-Oberführer (or SS-Ostubaf.?) Adolf Wagner (...especially him)

And does anyone have photos of them? I've never seen any...

(I've tried forum search, but I could find just some brief infos)

Thanks in advance,
Ivan

Thanks, Phil, helpful as always :)
(correct spelling - "Karl Marx", or "Carl Marks"?)

What about the rest of them...?

Cheers,
Ivan

OK.
Was Adolf Wagner, by any chance, in "Prinz Eugen"
before his service in "Karstjäger"?

There was SS-Obersturmbannführer Wagner in this div. (but I don't know his first name...?)

Zdravo Ivan,

Yes, this is the same Adolf Wagner, he was the commander of SS-Geb.Aus.-u. -Ers.Btl.7 stationed in Gradisca (NE Italy).

According to Corbatti&Nava, both Marks (7/44) and Wagner (2/45) were named the commanders of Karstjäger-Division (-Brigade) but due to different circumstances never assumed this position, making SS-Stubaf. Werner Hahn the unit's only commander.

Hvala, Mark!
Very interesting.
So, was Hahn indeed the only "Karstjäger" commander?
Is there an existing photo of Hahn?
(funny name: "hahn" - "rooster")

Cheers,
Ivan

Zdravo Ivan.

Yes, that's correct! Hahn was the only commander of the Karstjäger Division (-Brigade).

SS-Karstwehr Kp. was formed in July 1942 and Brand became its commander. In November 1942 the company was reorganized into a battalion - SS-Karstwehr Bataillon - Brand retained the command until February 1944, when he was relived after continuous disagreements with SS-HSSuPF OZAK SS-Ogrupf. Globocnik, SS-Hstuf.Berschneider was named as his successor (officially in June 1944). In July/August 1944 the battalion was integrated and expanded into a division and Berschneider was appointed with the command of W-Geb.Jg.Rgt.d.SS 59 and retained it till the end.

Thanks again, Mark.

Have you ever seen photos of Brand, Berschneider, or Hahn?

Cheers,
Ivan

If Werner Hahn is the same SS-Stubaf.Hahn that served in "Prinz Eugen"
as commander of SS-Geb.Pionier-Btl. (1943-44),
this is his photo:

Hi Ivan!

Not the same person! Werner Hahn joined W-SS in 1943 and was the Kdr. of SS-Geb.Jäg. Ers. u. -Ausb. Btl.6 prior to becoming the Kdr. of SS-Karstjäger Division.
