#1

Post by jv » 09 Dec 2005, 02:35

Referring to a previous request, I knew I had seen the photo of Himmler & his brothers in SS uniforms. I am pleased to post it here. This photo comes from Flucht vor Nuernberg by Werner Brockdorff 1969. jv

Was Ernst Himmler assigned to some Allgemeine-SS signals unit (standarte), his collar tab seems to indicate that?

Thank you jv for posting this photograph. In all my years of researching SS photographs I have not seen this one. Nice contribution.

The SS-Dienstaltersliste of 1 Oct. 1944 lists his duty assignment as "b. Chef Fernmeldewesen" (roughly = "assigned to the chief of the signals branch")

Superb. Thank you for posting a previously unseen photo. It's obviously one of several posed studio images taken. Oh to see the others in their original form!! Thanks again.

There is a nice studio portrait photo of Gebhard Himmler as SS-Standartenführer in Katrin Himmler, "Die Brüder Himmler", recently published in Germany (and available from http://www.amazon.de). The photo credit says "Privatbesitz" of the author and family.

There is also a similar portrait photo of Richard Wendler as SS-Obergruppenführer with same photo credit.

Steve,
I think I know the Himmler photo to which you refer.
Richard Wendler was never a SS-Obergruppenführer.

my mistake on the rank - SS-Gruppenführer - three oakleaves and a star in the left-centre
of the collar patch; shoulderboards looks to have one star.

Dear mty,
Here from the September 1935 Verordnungsblatt is Ernst Himmler's assignment to Nachrichten Sturmbann 8.

Ernst was KIA in Berlin May 1, 1945
Gebbhard survived the war and managed to build a new life after his time as POW.
Ernst wife (Paula) held close contact with several former members of the inner circle to
RFSS such as Wendler (childhood friend to G. Himmler) K. Wolf, Pohl until he was executed, maintaned contact with
Elenore Pohl after that. and several more.

It´s a very nice photo of Wendler in the book written by K Himmler.

Best reg.

Georg
