Verdun Liberation Medal (WWII)--NOT WWI

Postby foxhole1944 on 14 Feb 2006 20:30

Has anyone seen this medal? I learned of it from reading a GI's combat diary. He states in the October 12, 1944, entry: "People of Verdun authorized medals to all troops of the XX Corps for their part in the liberation of its city." From the date, we know the soldier could not be refering to the Metz liberation medal awarded to Patton and others.

Hi
They do exist!!!!I have actually got one of these medals plus the incredibly rare hand written certificate issued by the mayor of verdun and dated same date as liberation.
These awards were never accepted by the war department and cannot be officially worn- I have NEVER seen another one -and I have been collecting for years!!
They are the same medals as the 1st world war french medal awarded to the defenders of verdun
if you want more info please get in contact
Cheers
