Hello all. I am curious if anyone can recommend some good text that cover the Iron Guard in English. I am mainly looking for a good overview of the organizations history and activities during the war.

Thank you for any details.

There are a few books, but most of them focus on prewar activities of the Iron Guard. One is "Hitler's Forgotten Ally: Ion Antonescu and His Regime, Romania 1940-44" by Dennis Deletant. There is also, "The Sword of the Archangel: Fascist Ideology in Romania" by Radu Ioanid. Another is "The Legionary Movement after Corneliu Codreanu: From the Dictatorship of King Carol II to Communist Regime (February 1938-August 1944)" by Ilarion Tiu. Finally there is "The Green Shirts and the Others: A History of Fascism in Hungary and Rumania" by Nicholas M. Nagy-Talavera. There also is another small (200 pages) book put out by Trondheim Studies East European Cultures & Societies, "Charisma, Politics and Violence: The Legion of the "Archangel Michael" in Inter-war Romania" by Constantin Iordachi.

These should satisfy your thirst for knowledge on the Iron Guard.

Trifa...never heard of him but looked him up as a result of the book mentioned above. Interesting and deserving of mention.

There is another book which has much information on the Iron Guardists titled "The Anti-Humans: Student Re-Education in Romanian Prisons" by Dumitriu Bacu. After Romania became a communist puppet state, they locked these guys up for "re-education".
