Germany's most valuble ally?

Postby John H. on 21 Jul 2003 00:28

I was wondering if anybody has an opinion on who was germany's most valuble ally was. Personally I feel it was Romania because of their oil around Ploesti. But I would be glad to see what you guys think. Also I would like to know what was Germany's least valuble ally, Though I know most people would choose Italy.

Romania, yes

Also I tend to think Romania was much better at weapons than it is known. Their weapon industri was quite good, their fighter pilots were excellent. Their army aganinst sowiet did also quite well. The russian massive panzer-breakthroughts at Stalingrad was not because the romanian soldiers were inferior, but because they lacked good anti-tank weapons, and lacked ammunition to the cannons they did have.

Finland was also a good ally. They didn´t want to participate in the great offensive, but the front was steady, never any risk of russian breakthrougts there.

Yes, Italy was a desappointance. Their flying forces were OK, u-boats not too bad, the others not interested in fighting in a pro-germany war...

Japan

I think the Japanese were the Germany's best ally. Without taking anything away from other nationalities, when you consider the number of Allied troops destroyed by the Japanese Empire and then the number of them tied down in the Pacific fighting them that could have been employed against Nazi-Germany, there's little question of their ability. Furthermore, the Japanese, unlike Germany's other allies, fought a war by themselves on a nother front without German aid. Even the Finns had German units deployed to Finland on the eastern Front.
