Afrika Tall Boots

#1

Post by Filippov 125 » 18 Aug 2006, 10:53

Does anyone know of a source for the Afrika Korps tall boots... and what they are actually called (the boots).

If that fails, how about a source for the desert ankle boots?

Yep, http://ww2militaria-kcs.com/index.htm is selling 3 pairs on eBay, but they're not on his site strangely enough. I think they're just called 42 high boots :P

So you're interested in joining a DAK unit? That makes two of us, pleased to meet you mate!

Tropenmarschstiefel. They are available, as well as the tropenschuhe, from Soldier Of Fortune. One of the very few places that they are available. But very expensive being around the 250pounds mark- approx $500-$600(?). You could try the Ebay route? Have always been wary of "cheap" boots that either dont come from a known source, or have not been tried by someone else first. Give us a report if you do. I got the At The Front high boots for my DAK/Heer tropical clobber, and they (like the ATF low trop boots) are very good. Unfortunately no longer made. I think SMW made them for awhile?

Unless you are looking to do early DAK, 1941, you don't HAVE to have them. The low trop boot comes out around late 1941 approx, and the standard continental issue low boots follows soon after, around early 1942 approx.

Guys for DAK trop boots, you can stil get them via SMWholesale, in both long and low boot models. I would go this route, since they were the original suppliers to At The Front when they had them in stock a few years ago with no complaints. Stick with the devil you know, not the Chicom devil you don't.

Then again, unless you live in a desert or plan on doing some sort of Med event on a daily basis (which DEFINITLY would be a change) the standard low boot will do the job.

If you reallywant to be different with a LATE LATE war Med/Italian impression, go to
www.civilwarboots.com and check out his WW2 line. Not only does he make both world wars footwear for BOTH German and Allied, but he also makes the BEST U.S. Italian M1912 boots that you can get IF you can get them at all. Wearing Italian articles of clothing fits perfectly with an Italian front impression. Go to http://www.zeltbahn.com for period pics illustrating this.

I think I'm going to take my chances and do the Hong Kong thing. He has a pair in my size, and I don't plan on doing any heavy marching or combat in them. My DAK stuff is for show, and I don't use it in any battles. I really like the tall boots, and lots of Free India guys are wearing them in the pictures.

Next question: Do I need breeches in order to have the tall boots?

No. The breeches were relegated to a secondary/formal role, being optional after the first months of 1941. The tropenhosen are standard with high boots.

Thanks. Not having to buy new pants is a big relief.
Has anyone had experience with this Hong Kong Keith before? Is he trustworthy? I've heard some scary stories about Chinese repros. I'm willing to purchase these, and when I get them, I'll write a big long review for you guys. I'm just wondering if I should be cautious about... you know... buying things... from that far away.

P.S. HotelBushranger, if you know of any good DAK units between here and Perth, let me know

Well, the bloke who rums my unit has had several dealings with Keith, and says he is great, so go figure. He has the best selection of DAK stuff online that I've seen so far as well.

And, sorry mate, I don't know of anymore DAK units around :P :(

From what I've heard, sounds like all DAK units are either in California or Australia. Could be wrong though...

Yeah. *Peers outside and the lush greenery and the storm clouds overhead* Indiana just isn't suited for DAK. Oh well.

Florida has a subtropical climate, but it sure isn't a desert

...maybe we could double for Deutsch-Ostafrika. :D
