No factory made, inaccurate, post-war stuff.

The west German boots are highly inaccurate and would not be tolerated in any serious group.
You exagerate, they are not highly innaccurate and after conversion they are close all things considered (to include the wide variation of types observed in oiginal specimens and in period pictures).

Aside from a rounded toe mine are difficult to tell the difference from even 5 feet away. Here is an original pair that mine closely resemble:

Well back in the day....(unless you could get a New Columbia) :milwink: .

Personally I prefer original unless repro makes better sense, like wools and rifle sling. Otherwise I have all original metal, wood, leather, insignia, etc. I have the shark nosed repro jackboots and IMHO they are costume boots that don't hold up under field conditions, thus I relegate them to the barracks if at all.

I have a pair of the Bundeswehr jackboots I have been wearing for years, but not for reenacting. I love them but they're not like standard issue boots as worn by enlisted Wehrmacht soldiers during WWII. I have always worn low boots but recently purchased a pair of quality reproduction jackboots from Robert Land, I've heard great things about those and am excited to get them.

The cheap repro jackboots (probably Sturm made) is not very good...nor entirely accurate. but there are many other low-end makers that offer jackboots...you get what you pay for.
Here in Europe we have access to several sources of high-end footwear. Koutny, Lederarsenal, Svec, etc. They make footwear exactly like it was made for the German armed forces during the war. Same details, same quality. No costume stuff there.

I ordered a pair of Lederarsenal low boots, but I will need boots to use for the next 5ish months while they are being made.
How good are the high end model jackboots currently sold by Richard A Underwood?

Has anyone bought a pair of jackboots from SM Wholesale? I wonder if they're any good.

So, how are everyone's boots holding up since you bought them?

If you are going for the shark nose, stay away from Grigsby's. I bought a pair a long time ago and they were modern round toes. At the Front's would be great if their calves weren't built for an elephant! Best would be SSroom (they look big around calves though) or LB's from what I've seen.
I've seen plenty of original examples with round toes, millions were made and variations existed. That said, they are considerably less pleasant to look at than the sharknose design.

cruff,

From what I've monitored (and experienced) the best places are Richard A Underwood in England ($305?), Lost Battalions ($462), and Grigsby ($275-300). Stay away from At The Front for these.

Search "At the Front M1939 Jackboots" in Reenactment section (search topic "M1939")

You want the "shark-nosed" toe section, and a narrow ankle.

Cheers,

Thought I'd revive this thread to shill for ATF a bit: their latest boots are about $400 and look incredible, really nice work on stitching, pegged/stitched soles, no nylon pull-tabs and pre-dyed leather. Almost a perfect repro with some (unseen) modern enhancements too.
