Is this the same Gerhard who appeared on a number of re-enactor YouTube clips talking about his wartime experiences? He looks familiar. My condolences.

Although I'm not familiar with the YouTube clips, I wouldn't be surprised, nobodyofnote. He was incredibly generous with his time and memory, as well as his example of how to conduct one's life.

Rest in Peace Gerhard. I met him at FIG 2010. He was a very kind person, who went out of his way to answer the pleathora of questions reenactors had for him...

Rest in peace. yes, this is the same gerhard on the youtube clips. He was a lieutenant in the 10th ss frundsberg, although his honourary reencting rank was brigadefuhrer.
