German Heer or SS Machine Gun Teams.

Hi, Im looking for more information about the Rank and equipment of an assistant gunner. I know gunners could different ranks, but does the same go for the assistant gunners? and if so, what was the typical main arm that they were issued? Just a standard K98? or could it have been a multitude of other weapons, I know the assistant gunners were issued side arms as well. Im building an assistant gunner impression for my group.
