These Russian boots actualy apear to be the best I could have gone with, I had a few people at Odessa ask me if they were from Lost Battlions. They have the swade toe and rough leather look at the top as they should. The boots turned out quite nice and the price was right (probobly about $120USD total).

i suggest you not to convert east german boots, the leather is too different (worst quality) and shoe repair stores and quite expensive.
Better a wachtbataillon boot (like the links above) or a repro (no more than 250$ anyway) IMHO.

I found East German boots to be quite contrary:, very comfortable, and high quality. both officer and enlisted types. The leather is reasonably thick and very tough, though the feet if mine are beginning to get a little cracjed, but what do yiu expect from a pair of 40 year old boots who's previous owner used them as gum-boots? :p

with East German boots, the foot is inside the shaft, unlike more traditional jacl/riding boots whocj have the foot/lip stitched to the outside. from what I see, the pattern of e/german and WH are almost identical, except the internal foot and the lack of suede.

do you reckon a decent cobbler could swap out the foot so it is situated outside instead? maybe even turn it inside out to get the suede part on the outside :p
then apart from the slightly different 1-piece shaft/heel design, you have yourself a rather lovely WW2 conversion
