Reproduction SS daggers?

#1

Post by mty » 16 Apr 2005, 19:10

Hi!

I am putting together a pre-war SSTV or SD impression and would like to know from where can I order high quality reproduction SS daggers (M1936/chained dagger)? Not many online militaria stores are selling them, only militaria-net.co.uk (currently they only seem to have SA daggers) and Italy-based Militaria Collection (I have heard of their bad quality uniforms/insignia, is it the same thing with edged weapons?).

At the moment I can't afford a real piece but I'm still after high quality reproductions. Thanks in advance :).

Hi,
For the moment Best quality reproduction of the SS Dagger with chain is made by Reddick.
Products from Militaria Collection or Militaria-net are crappy.
Price is around $250 and all is correctly crafted (pomel in wood, not in plastic as those sold with Millitaria collection and militaria-net).

Thank you for your kind advice :)

Are there anywhere photos available of those Reddick daggers? They don't seem to have a website (or then I failed the Google search ;)). Thirdreich.ca has a very nice and accurate looking model available for $ 395 but that seems a bit too much, compared to Reddick's $ 250.

gencom: you stated that products from Militaria-net are crappy? Is it with all their products or their daggers only?

Hi Mty,
This dagger seems to be similar to the one sold by Reddick (all is correct).
Sorry but No website for third reich items sold by Reddick.
About Militaria-net : Yes! Definitly crappy. All items are bad fakes and it is very expenssive.
Best

gencom: thank you again for providing information about the quality (or lack of it) of Militaria-net products. I was about to order some items from there but perhaps I should reconsider it :). As you live in Europe like me, have you ever come across a reputable dealer who has reproductions of chained SS daggers for sale (with acceptable quality)? I'd rather purchase my copy from Europe but if none are available, that is different situation then.

Hi mty,
here is a link of a good dealer from England : http://www.nicholasmorigi.com/catalogue ... %20DAGGERS
The quality of this SS dagger is realy exellent (as those sold by Reddick & Thirdreich.ca).
Price is approx. 290€.
Hope this help!

Best,
GenCom

Ps 1 : if do you consider the fact that you have to pay higher shipping fees and taxes (customs) for the receipt of a good from the US, it is cheaper to get your good from Europe, England included.
Just between us, I have ordered many items from the US and Canada (damned! the worst for taxes!) and i've been robed many many times by customs and postal services. So you should think about it... nicolasmorigi is finaly the cheaper way to get your dagger i think.

Ps 2 : i'm looking for the SS dagger without chain (best repro). If you have any plan, please let me know...

Marto (sp?), a Spanish firm, was once the premier producer of III. Reich replica edged weapons. Perhaps you can find a nice pre-owned Marto on eBay?

Yes, Marto certainly seems to be a company of a pretty high quality. Have to take a look from ebay. A friend of mine is going to Spain next week, are you aware if those reproduction daggers are also sold in specialist shops in Spain? Thank you for sharing that piece of information :).

Hey mty!

You can find a lot of daggers in the old quarter of madrid shops, but Marto and other spanish good sword-dagger makers are all placed in Toledo, 1 hour from Madrid by car, and a very beautyful and interesting medieval city ( also the nearby of the cathedral) and plenty of shops with swords and daggers, included Marto and prices lower than UK or USA, of course.

If I can help, Im pleased to do.

Kaksi olut, olka hyvaa!

Thanks of a good reply :)

I am going to acquire a first-class copy sooner or later. At the moment I have a Spanish-made copy of 1936 chained dagger and it has numerous errors - such as wrong number of runic/skull plates, wrong typography for "Meine Ehre Heisst Treue" text and so on. But until I can afford a quality copy I have to cope with that for reenacting and photography - for the latter it is good enough :).

FYI: Well, if your looking for a decent repro, here is a good site that have very good quality items for a decent price. And yes I've heard all the stories of buying a repro, so save your energy. The guy asked the question so this is what I would suggest if one wants a reproduction.

"Marto" company, as far as I remember never made the chained M 36 SS Dagger.
Most probably was a "Denix" SS Dagger, not very accomplished indeed.
