Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
These images will make it all clearer, I think ...
This is the "Torhaus Eckerbrunn," a wooden structure that was built at the Hintereck, above the SS Kaserne. It served as a guard house where all those roads and streets came together at the Hintereck, and I believe it also (at times) functioned as a souvenir kiosk and post office for tourists (in the mid-late 30s, presumably).
This May 1945 photo shows the whole area, with the gates across all these streets and drives, and the artificial trees with camouflage netting erected at the Hintereck and the SS Kaserne. This area is where the Hintereck Cafe was built after the war, and where tourists got on the buses up to the Kehlsteinhaus, until the Interconti Hotel was built and this whole area was changed, ca. 2001.
A view of the ruins ca. 1946-1950. All that is left of the Torhaus Eckerbrunn is the rubble and stone pillar in the foreground. The greenhouse ruin is to the upper right, with the SS Kaserne ruins to the left.

Oh, here and there, collecting over several years. I could say the same for all those great Hitler portraits you find!

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
great addition Geoff, a phenomenal spotlight on an otherwise neglected area of the Obersalzberg
Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Great work once again Geoff, this image of the guard house is a rare find, and is new to me.

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Geoff is the today's bus route road that is mentioned in the picture not the "up" road to the Scharitzkehlstrasse. The road between the Kehlsteinstrasse and actual scharitzkehlstrasse. I always thought bus road was the kehlsteinstrasse and that is more between the road mentioned as to the ss kaserne and the torhaus. Maybe i'm wrong but if i compare with google earth it looks so.Geoff Walden wrote:

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Cor,
You're absolutely right - here is a corrected version. Today's bus route does follow the route of that little drive that ran between the Drivers' House and the Garage building of the SS Kaserne.
Thanks,
Geoff

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
if you were standing at the end of the Berghof driveway, say, in the vicinity of the Bormann tree looking up, could you see the Eagles Nest?
and were you in the Eagles Nest looking down, would you have been able to see the Berghof?

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
so out of curiosity I went to youtube to attempt to find a clip of the drive up to the Eagles Nest, and there are a couple with varying degrees of quality and helpfulness:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tumLdun7XrM is one
and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpcKx_YfGhU is another

Since New Years Eve is quickly approaching I thought I would add a photo
of Hitler at the Berghof New Years Eve, don't know what year this is.

Re: Berghof Obersalzberg
Looks like a double exposure? Never seen this image, interesting. I like it though.
