Does anyone know what has happened to the Deutscher Hof

Re: Deutscher Hof in Nürnberg
Hi Annelie,
The new owners continue to remodel the building. The period items such as lamps, etc., were removed from the front facade, but it's hard to say what the front looks like now, as it is covered by scaffolding and plastic sheeting. Just the original old part, not the 1936 wing. The rear wing was torn down (this was a back part that really didn't look like it was part of the hotel anyway).
Here is a really good photo site, that includes an artist's rendering of what it will look like after the remodel (with the roof very much closer to the original, which was damaged by bombs during the war and not rebuilt to its original configuration).

Thanks Geoff,
Lets hope they keep the integrity of the hotel and its past.
Kind of early to tell yet from the photos.

Re: Deutscher Hof in Nürnberg
Just some update photos. The older historic part of the Deutscher Hof Hotel remains wrapped up and undergoing renovation. It is very encouraging to see the new roof configuration, which is very much closer to the original configuration, than the version that was rebuilt after wartime bomb damage. (renovation photo taken 28 August 2015)

Re: Deutscher Hof in Nürnberg
The renovation of the former Deutscher Hof hotel is nearing completion. The exterior is said to be just about finished (I hope to get photos in a couple of days), and the interior will be complete by February. Although the plans for a ground floor public restaurant fell through, the owners are planning to put a display about the building's history just inside the main entrance.

Looking forward to your photos, Geoff . . . and still thinking about the lamp that was hanging so loose a couple years back. Walked past it every day, thinking about how nice it would look - lighting up the back patio at night. What a conversation piece that would have been!

Couple of pics taken the other night, on the way back from the Christkindlesmarkt. The exterior is apparently finished, although no light fixtures have been put up yet - hope they saved those originals!
Re: Deutscher Hof in Nürnberg
Looks pretty good as in they didn't drastically change it exterior.
You sure know how to make one envious...No snow there either!

Re: Deutscher Hof in Nürnberg
I drove by there today - the remodeling is not finished so the former Deutscher Hof is not yet open to the public (even though they are private apartments, the lobby is supposed to be open).
The former "Gästehaus der NSDAP" on the Bahnhofsplatz is being remodeled into the Park Hotel Nürnberg. (This is the hotel where Göring stayed during the Party Rallies, and was either the first or one of the first hotels in Europe with air conditioning. The hotel later served for years as the "Bavarian-American Hotel," but it has been closed for almost 20 years.)

Re: Deutscher Hof in Nürnberg
I went by both hotels today. The former Deutscher Hof is still not finished, but they did put the original light fixtures (cleaned and painted) back on the façade (Brad will be glad to hear this!)
My post above was mistaken - it's a Park Plaza Hotel, not Park Hotel. It looks like it may open before the former Deutscher Hof (the lobby is supposed to be open to the public, with a display about the history of the Deutscher Hof).

Damn! After all this time, I was hoping you'd come across a pair in a fleamarket one day - and send them to me for use as coach-lights at my garage!Geoff Walden wrote: but they did put the original light fixtures (cleaned and painted) back on the façade (Brad will be glad to hear this!)
Happy to see some progress on the re-build though. My mind still has trouble grasping at the fact the building is all new - less the façade . . . but I suppose this is not unique to the Deutscher Hof after all, is it?

Re: Deutscher Hof in Nürnberg
The building is apparently finished now. My wife and I visited the lobby today ... the front door was unlocked ... we were taking photos when a lady came up and told us this is NOT a public building, and the info displays on the lobby wall are not for the public. But she let us finish photographing, and we left.
So, here are the info boards, just for the AHF viewing public.
