Yes, the area is very different today.Annelie wrote:Great Photos!
Thankyou, I visited what is left of Anhalter Bahnhof. Its hard to realize
now what the area once looked like. In fact I have walked all the streets
of which the photos show and it seems the whole of Berlin has
changed very much.
I think you will also find this thread interesting Annelie which includes more photographs and information about the remains today of Anhalter Bahnhof:

Best regards.
A few points:
1. You identify this as Erich Mendelsohn's Columbushaus...
Where? Under construction behind the billboards?
This picture shows Columbushaus on the left...That cannot be the Adlon on the right... it was, and is again, on Unter den Linden.
2. This is not the "Imperial Reichskanzlei".. that was the Radziwill Palace...
the building pictured was an addition built during the Weimar years connecting the Radziwill to the Borsig Palace. The photo is not "before Speer's expansion program", as it has both the 1933 balcony and the 1938 auto tunnel cut through it to the Ehrenhof of the New Chancellery.
3. The building you identify above as Anhalter Bahnhof is not the same building shown in ruins in the today photos... and, in fact, it clearly says "Potsdamer Bahnhof" right on the facade. (see below)

When I was looking to the pictures I was surprised to see the Hotel Adlon was on the herman goringstrasse, but when I see your reply I can agree with you that you're right.Von Odine wrote:

David,
Thank you so very much for posting these! They are wonderful!
On the question of "how many buildings are still there"....that's something I have been pondering for myself also. I was watching the DVD "The Bourne Supremacy" the other night, and I noticed it was filmed, for a large part, in Berlin. The cityscape and environs looks so ultra-modern to me..Of course, as an armchair historian, I'm subconsciously looking to see Berlin as it was in the 30's and 40's, which I know is an unrealistic view because of the 60-odd years of reform and economic progress that has transpired in Germany since the end of the war; I'll admit it's a bad habit and/or curse I have!
